Bygora Vandos ~ Sinclair V-Log LB734/A

Sam Sinclair didn’t usually play the role of detective. His job was just to chase and catch a specific target and deliver them into the hands of the Inter Galactic Law Enforcement Agency, so when his boss offered him an undercover job, he was only too happy to accept.

Together with his new partner Ren, Sam begins the slow process of investigating the secluded and secretive Calmarin Research Station. Although set up to apparently investigate the cause of dying trees in the locale, rumours run rife among the local people about what really goes on there. What Sam and Ren discover after weeks of carefully working their way in, is one of the most terrible crimes against humanity that either of them have ever encountered and both vow to do their utmost to bring it to an end.

Sam finds many allies amongst the local people but with his cover blown and Ren taken prisoner, he no longer knows who can be trusted. As the job reaches its explosive climax and the personal cost to Sam takes its toll, the shocking truth finally comes out.

THEIR SOULS, REAWAKENED.

When 13-year-old Lilix Morgan is found alive and floating on a bed of ice at sea, everyone counts it a miracle. Kidnapped nearly four weeks earlier, she remembers nothing of her mysterious abduction. When she tries to remember what happened, she hears only a melody – a faint and delicate set of notes, strung together in a tune she doesn’t understand.

THEIR POWER, UNMATCHED.

A year later and desperate to put the lingering nightmares of her past behind her, Lilix crosses the country to enroll at Baelmorte Academy, aiming to become the violinist she once dreamt of. Things seem to be finally going well, and Lilix settles into a routine of sheet music and inspiration among new friends.

Then the dreams start.

The melody and night terrors she thought she’d left behind return with a vengeance, threatening to ruin her fragile version of normalcy. Then an unlikely ally tells her that she isn’t alone. That there are others just like her, fighting to hide their own shocking truths from coming to light. That they know who she is, and what she’s been through. Now, accompanied by four other girls, Lilix discovers her nightmares are larger than a single trauma; they’re a window to a hidden part of her soul, a place of immense power with a destiny that cannot be ignored.

THEIR BATTLE, IS ONLY BEGINNING.

With this knowledge comes a new and frightening reality. For Lilix has been reawakened to stop an age-old enemy, one thought to have been destroyed centuries ago. Trapped by her destiny, Lilix is torn between what feels right and what she remembers. Her memories tell her of a star-crossed love waiting to be reunited, of friendships and trust broken in the past. But can she save that love when reality brings her an enemy, and an evil that will be the undoing of them all if they don’t destroy it?

Book Review On Devlin’s Descendant by Felicia Tatum

Warning: There are a few spoilers in this review.

Devlin’s Descendant is book three in the White Aura series about a sorcerer family with an evil curse.

This book doesn’t disappoint, and I loved the new developments in this tale.

The story begins with Aiden’s capture. The Crimson Calamitous who is a wicked sorcerer kidnaps Aiden and had once used him as a vessel. He warns Aiden about using his body again to get what he wants. Aiden is surprised to discover Scott’s brother Sebastian is working with the Crimson Calamitous by allowing him to reside within his flesh.

Meanwhile, Scott and his younger sister Sadie tell their grandmother about Devlin’s descendant. Grams is just as shocked as they are on who it is, and she vows to help them find a solution to this heart wrenching problem.

Aiden’s captor releases him with the promise of coming back to possess his body. Everyone is happy when Aiden appears at Scott’s house–especially Sadie.

This is one of the developments that delighted me . . .

Sadie and Aiden.

The more I read this series, the more I’m loving Sadie’s character. She turns sixteen in this book, is becoming a powerful sorceress, and she’s sassy. I love how she is.

Aiden gives subtle hints about his feelings towards Sadie, but she keeps denying how he makes her feel. She even gets annoyed with how her body reacts when he’s nearby, like butterflies in her stomach. It’s cute, and I love Sadie’s demeanor in trying to brush off her growing attraction towards Aiden.

Towards the end of this story, Scott, Olivia, Sadie, and Aiden are forced to take a trip to the mountains where deep inside the Sorcery Council awaits their arrival. When they confront this group, they’re taken aback by one of the members and shocked by the information given to them. I loved this unexpected surprise and the other one that follows when the four of them are back home. This last one is freaky, and I’m looking forward to finding out what’s going to happen next.

Felicia did a great job in keeping this story interesting and has the wonderful ability to keep surprising me along the way. :)

Book Review On Masked Encounters By Felicia Tatum

Masked Encounters is part one of the Intoxicating Passion novella series by Felicia Tatum. I was fortunate enough to read the ARC  before it gets published on October 25th 2013.

I do have a problem reading books on a screen, and I *gasp* don’t even own a Kindle. However, since this is a novelette, I was able to read it on my computer, and I’m glad I did.

When I first started reading Mask Encounters, I was delighted on how it began.

I loved it!

Felicia cracks me up.

It begins with the main character nineteen-year-old Korah. She's on a blind date her roommate sets her up on. I’ve never been on one before, but I imagine a few of you female readers have been in a similar situation as Korah where the dude is not only a loser but creepy and drones on and on about himself. Of course, afterwards his beady snake eyes roams your cleavage and he says a cheesy line that makes your skin crawl.

Have you ever been in that situation before?

Well, Felicia nailed the scene perfectly.

Anyway, Korah built a wall around her heart because her last boyfriend Christopher had hurt her. I don’t know what happened between them, but it was bad enough to cause Korah to crawl in a hole inside herself. I’m guessing the next installment in this series we’ll discover more about it.

Leela is Korah’s roommate and best friend. She talks Korah into going to a Halloween costume party the frat house on their college campus is having. Korah makes it clear to Leela that she’s not to be set up on a date, and she’s not going to hook up with anybody. Leela promises Korah they’re only going to have fun and that’s it, but little does Korah know what's in store for her when she meets Dane.

Dane is a classic playboy. I have to say . . . I loved how his point of view began.

Loved it!

Felicia did an excellent job with this character.

Hell, she did a fabulous job with the whole chapter.

The reader is totally inside this ladies’ man’s head.

It’s great.

Dane is a gorgeous panty dropping type of guy, who seeks one thing from women . . . pleasure. He doesn’t care about them, and like the Grinch, his heart is the size of a pea. Then he sees Korah in a costume shop, and he can’t keep his eyes off her. She glances his way with disinterest. He’s shocked by her lack of attention towards him, and he can’t stop thinking about the stunning brunette.

The Halloween ball is in full swing when Korah and Leela arrive. Korah then comes face to face with a dark-haired stranger hiding behind a Zorro mask. When he speaks, his voice sends tingles up her spine, then the fun begins.

Ooooh, yeah.

What happens next might curl your toes boys and girls.

I recommend this book, and I’m looking forward to the next one.

You Should Avoid This While Writing Your Story

Can you guess what the answer to this title is?

Predictability.

Don’t you hate it when you’re reading a book or watching a movie, and you know what’s going to happen before it does?

I do.

Last weekend we watched World War Z.

It freaked me out btw.

LOL.

Anyway, toward the end of the movie I knew what was going to happen. In fact, I told Kevin before it did, and I was right. Actually, the entire script was predictable.

As a writer you want to avoid having your story be too transparent where the reader will be able to predict the outcome before it even happens. However, you want to capture their interest and keep them guessing. Therefore, you need to leave clues and red herrings to mislead or distract them. Then in the end when everything in your tale comes to light, your reader will be thrilled to discover she was wrong all along or was close to figuring it out.

Another movie I want to mention:

Wild Things with Neve Campbell and Denise Richards.

Have you seen it?

This is a great example of what I'm talking about.

The writer did a fine job on this one.

I remember when Kevin and I first watched it we were like, "No way! That’s fucked up." As we kept watching the movie we gaped at each other a couple times, because we weren’t expecting the things that had happened.

It was great–especially the ending.

The story and the plot totally surprised us.

This is what you want to accomplish.

I do; however, think in some genres you have to be somewhat predictable, like in romance. Most readers of that genre want a happy ending. So, yeah, in the end the couple overcomes their adversity and falls into each other’s arms, proclaiming their undying love for one another or something along those lines. You
can; though, still make the rest of the story less predictable.

Example: You can have two different paths the main character is forced to choose from. Write both of them to be equally compelling and plausible with a dusting of suspense on the two life changing events. You can create it to where it's a nail biting decision where either way the character has a lot to lose.

Besides leaving clues and red herrings, you can also do foreshadowing, which is when you as the author hint at certain plot developments that may come to fruition later in the story. It’s another way to capture the reader’s interest and prepare them for what might unfold.

I do those things in my Beyond the Eyes trilogy, and I’ve actually had fans come up to me and ask about a character or situation they want to know the outcome of. I’m keeping them guessing and they’re so involved in the trilogy that they’re fishing for answers from me. I just tell them they have to read the next book to find out.

Evil?

Nah. It makes me happy I’m doing my job and have people actually emotionally invested in my characters and story.

That’s what you want.

And yeah truth be told, you can’t please everybody.

People are going to hate your story.

I have a few who hate mine and have said nasty things about it. But that's part of the business.

In short, there are some genres you can’t avoid the expected predictability.

But regardless if you write a tale where the audience is looking for a happy ending that you must deliver, you can still keep them guessing throughout the story by spinning it with suspense and uncertainty.

It’ll keep them turning the page long after bedtime.

So throw in some hints, scatter a few red herrings and do a little foreshadowing.

Hints + red herring + foreshadowing= suspense and unpredictability.

Those three things carefully executed into your story will delight your readers in the end.
