Hidden (House of Night novel) by P.C. & Kristin Cast Book Review

Warning: There are spoilers.

I really like the House of Night series. I think Aphrodite is one of my all-time favorite characters in a book. She is such a smart-ass and cracks me up. P.C. and Kristin did a wonderful job on the characters in this series. They’re also creative and imaginative writers who I appreciate. I think though, this series is dragging on and on and on. If you plan on doing a series or trilogy, you need to shake things up a bit and make the story fresh.

In this book Hidden, not much really happens, except for Neferet gets darker, is shunned by the High Council, and kidnaps Zoey’s grandma.

What took place in this book could have been written in the last one.

What was new in this novel was Erin’s character changing sides and Lenobia’s revelation about something I’ve been waiting for since the last installment. Unfortunately though, me as a reader, only got a glimpse on what was going on with these two characters. I think the story would have been a lot fresher if the authors had focused more on these two characters. I also think it would have been cool if Aurox (A.K.A. bull-boy) had revealed his true self to Zoey and the gang at the beginning of this novel. It would have made this story a more interesting read, and the authors could have ran with it, creating many twists and turns in this tale. But it’s their creation, and I respect that. I was just hoping for a lot more than what it was.

Book Review On Daring Dane By Felicia Tatum

Daring Dane is part of the Intoxicating Passion novella series. It’s the third book and an enjoyable read.

Dane is a hot frat playboy who has issues with women. Period. He’s a male whore. End of story. However, Korah who is in one of his classes, rocks his world. She’s not like all the other panty dropping girls he’s accustomed to. She’s different. When he finally gains her trust, he does the ultimate ass monkey mistake. After they have sex, he sneaks out of Korah’s house when she’s asleep and totally bails on her.

I wanted to slap him for crushing Korah’s heart like that.

Dumbass.

In the third installment to this novella series, Korah feels like an idiot for falling for Dane’s charms. But when her past rolls into her life, blindsiding her, she has no choice but to call Dane for help. He comes to her aid without question. Korah is ashamed and embarrassed to involve Dane into her unfortunate circumstances, but she has no choice. Dane wants a second chance with her, but he lost her trust and now has to suffer the consequences.

Dane is a total wreck without Korah. He begins to do some self-evaluation on why he behaves the way he does towards women. His behavior stems from his childhood. He acknowledges it and realizes his feelings for Korah are genuine.

He loves her.

Korah has feelings for Dane; however, he blew his chances the night he walked out on her. Now he has to prove himself to her in order to gain her trust back.

Will Dane be able to win Korah’s heart?

I think he will, but I won't know until the next book in this novella series comes out, which I’m looking forward to reading.

Book Review On Entangled Souls By Felicia Tatum

Entangled Souls book #1.5 is a novella that’s part of the Scarred Hearts Series. It picks up to where the last one (Mangled Hearts) left off.

Cade is a recovering alcoholic and is now doing out patient rehab. With the help of his sponsor and his fiancée Francesca, he’s dealing with the drastic changes in his life and fighting the urge not to drink. He’s also forced to work on repairing his broken relationship with his dad, whom he calls Pops.

The struggle Cade is going through with his father and his drinking problem is realistic. Felicia did a wonderful job with portraying these two situations. I found myself getting choked up towards the end with a scene concerning Cade and Pops.

Francesca has her own troubles to face and overcome. She refuses to burden Cade with them and is always there to help him through his difficult moments. She’s a strong person, though she doesn’t realize it. Not only is she a young lawyer who just opened up her own law firm, and the anniversary of her sister’s death is looming over her head, her relationship with her best friend suddenly gets fractured, devastating her.

Both Cade and Francesca’s hardships forces them to grow and overcome the obstacles that are thrown in their paths. Their love for one another continues to grow through it all. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment in this series.

Dark Indiscretions Book Blast

Book Blurb:

What happens when your whole family is scarier than any nightmare and you have no desire to be anything like them? Do you stay and go along with the family plans or do you rebel and have them possibly turn their viciousness on you?

Jennifer Johnston experiences first hand why whispers are spoken in the dark about her species’ being evil when she was just a century old. What should have been another family dinner spent arguing over why she didn’t want to keep the bloodlines “pure” by being married off to her older brother turned into a nightmare and left her with more than tortured memories.

Jackson Dawls and Taylor Durham had been pack mates, best friends, and the other’s mate for as long as they could remember. They were a deadly species all their own but even they feared the Mystics and their overly cruel and barbaric ways, but unforeseen circumstances bring them face to face with not one but a few. Will there lives be in danger or is something great and unexpected awaiting them?

They also have to stay under the radar of the human society that is set out to destroy those they believe to be “Tarnished” and a danger to mankind.

When the three meet long ago secrets are brought to the light. Secrets no one but Jennifer knew. Not only do they have to learn to get along with each other because they are fated, someone is also stalking Jennifer and preforming sinister acts without her being any the wiser.

Jennifer must seek guidance from old acquaintances and form alliances with those she never thought she would. She is met with riddles and startling revelations that she never would have imagined possible.

Will they accept their fates and work together or will old fears destroy their lives? Will Jennifer be able to reclaim what was taken from her right from under her nose?

Book Feature! Hidden Magic By Melanie Crouse

Hey, I have another book feature for y'all.

Woot!

I love this cover and the title. The story seems interesting as well. I'm going to have to put this on my TBR list. :)

When Jenny has the opportunity to spend the summer with her sister, a small slice of freedom is all she's really hoping for when she has the opportunity to spend the summer with her sister. Instead she finds something else altogether: electricity.

That's what Jenny feels when she looks at Arram. She knows he’s drawn to her too, but the mage-in-training does his best to hide it.

Stung, Jenny turns to Arram's former best friend, Jack. But Arram and Jack's rivalry is much darker than Jenny suspects, and so are Jack's intentions. Soon she's caught in a mystery of old murder, ancient prophecies, and magic hidden where no one has thought to look.

When Jenny uncovers a secret magic, she is offered two choices. Arram wants her to do the safe thing. Jack wants to show her the easy way out. Whatever Jenny decides, her life will irrevocably change.

Either way, freedom may be the one thing Jenny can never have.

Excerpt:

Jack put his finger to his lips and motioned toward an empty bedroom across the hall. Not knowing what else to do, she went in, her heart thudding against her ribs. “Jack,” she whispered. “What are you doing here? How did you get in?”

“What? No welcome home kiss?” His voice was mocking.

Trying to keep her voice steady, she said, “So Arram was right. You do want to kidnap me after all.”

“Kidnap you?” Jack looked horrified. Underneath the horror though, Jenny could see that his eyes were sparkling with mischief. “I should have known Arram would fill your head with something stupid like that. No, you wonderful, impossible girl, I’m here to rescue you.”

About Melanie Crouse

Melanie Crouse is the author of Hidden Magic, coauthor of the book Alchemy and the CEO of the craziest household in the Western Hemisphere. Lately, both of those full-time jobs have collided, creating chaos on a colossal scale. Which is just the way she likes it.

In her spare time, Melanie likes to play the piano, swim, hike and teach preschool. Whether she has spare time or not, she manages to read prolifically, which probably explains more than it doesn't.

She loves her family dearly, and wishes with all her heart that her teenage children weren't so embarrassed that their mom writes "kissing scenes."
