THE RELUCTANT ALPHA: When Kellen Styles finds Laikyn in the last place he expected, he rides to her rescue, but then can’t stop his dominant needs from taking over. AN UNDENIABLE BOND: Kellen is determined to claim his tempting mate and earn her forgiveness, and nothing and no one will stand in his way. Story Excerpt
“You would have saved me,” Laikyn said against his lips.
Her faith in him made him feel ten feet tall. “I’ll always protect you. You come first, middle, and last in my world. My every waking breath will be filled with your scent. I need you, Laikyn.”
“We should help Rowan unload the trailer into the barn for the night.” Laikyn nuzzled against his neck.
She fit him. He called her his kitten, and the way she was rubbing up against him, the soft little sighs, he truly thought the name appropriate, even though they were wolves.
“Alright, let’s get it done, so I can make you mine properly.” Kellen opened his door, climbing out with Laikyn in his arms.
“It’s a good thing you’re such a big man, Kellen.” Laikyn wrapped her arms around his neck.
He looked down at her. “Why’s that,” he asked letting her slide down the front of his body.
“You’re always picking me up, and I’m far from a small chick.” She stood on her toes and kissed his beard stubbled chin.
Kellen gripped her ass, bringing her flush with his hard-on. “Thank god for that. I love how you fit against me.”
Banging on the door had him growling. “Damn that Rowan.”
She laughed. “He is probably wanting to get home and practice making babies.”
“Boy needs to figure that shit out,” Kellen mumbled striding to the door.
At the door Rowan and Lyric stood with worried expressions. Rowan held his hand up, ready to knock again. “I know how to make babies. I just enjoy the practice. Tell her we are ready to do the making and its game on. Now, what the fuck happened?”
They spent the next few minutes getting the trailer in the barn, then Kellen ushered the couple into the large log home. After he shared the information Damien had given them, Rowan began to pace.
“How do we protect the entire pack if he decides to pull the same shit on them that he did on you two?”
“Forewarned is forearmed, man. Besides, I can share with everyone at once.” Kellen kept his tone level.
Lyric stood in front of Rowan. “He’s the alpha, remember.”
“So do you send out a call or text?” Humor laced Rowan’s voice, but Kellen saw through to the real worry.
Kellen nodded. “Something like that. I believe a mind-fuck some might call it, but I will do a little love tap first. I hate to bombard everyone at once, however it must be done now. I’m going to give Xan a heads up first.” Kellen gave Laikyn a kiss. “You will have to ignore his snarly attitude.”
“What do you mean?” Laikyn blinked up at him.
“I don’t plan to keep you out, so when I tap on Xan’s mind, he’ll more than likely be snarling back at me. Ignore him.”
Within minutes Kellen and Xan were mind-speaking, luckily he and Breezy weren’t in the process of doing the deed, making the snarling minimal. As Kellen’s second, Xan would help Kellen funnel the information throughout the pack.
“I say we use Rowan and his link with Lyric as well. He’s a strong alpha, not to mention a force to be reckoned with,” Xan suggested.

Blog Tour! Rough Terrain by #Author Cheryl Douglas

Rough Terrain - tour header
Wes Davis left Vista Falls when the girl he loved got pregnant and decided they were too young and irresponsible to be parents. He signed the adoption papers, but he never stopped loving the baby he’d never met. Years passed, success found him, but there was a hole in his heart and life that he knew only one thing could fill. His son.

Sage Breville was stunned to learn her ex-boyfriend was back in town. With him came a rush of memories and questions about the kind of life they could have had if she’d been brave enough to stand up to her parents years ago and raise the child she’d so desperately wanted with the man she loved.

There were some wounds time couldn’t heal, and Sage was convinced there was no way back for them. But did Wes see it her way or was he ready to forgive… and move on?

When one door closes, another one opens. I closed the door to my business for the last time in 2011, which left me with a decision. What now? Find another location and move my nutrition business, go to work for someone else, or take a chance on my dream? I chose the latter and I’ve never looked back!

I’ve always loved reading and writing, but it wasn’t until I jumped in with both feet and decided writing would be my career, instead of just a hobby, that my muse woke up from her deep slumber.
It was like someone flipped a switch inside my head and stories just came pouring out. At the end of the day, I would often look at the keyboard and wonder, ‘Who the heck wrote that? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure it wasn’t me!’
I don’t write books. I tell stories, or rather, I allow my characters to tell their stories through me. I’m not a plotter, never have been, never will be. Why? Because I have no idea how the story will evolve and it’s not my place to manipulate it. My job is to get to know these characters, figure out what makes them tick, then follow their journey wherever it takes me.
When I’m not writing, I’m daydreaming. Thankfully, I have an understanding husband and son who know I’ll re-join the land of the living just as soon as my muse decides it’s quitting time. I don’t work for myself. I work for her. She’s the boss. And I’m okay with that.

A Mysterious Bloodstain. Murder. A True #Paranormal Story

If you've been following me and have read my background, you know that when my parents were married, they were the directors of the UFO Investigators League. They not only investigated extraterrestrial cases but paranormal as well. Why do you think I'm fascinated with the unknown? I grew up in it. Through experience, knowledge and imagination is how I come up with my stories.

Anyway, my dad had told me an interesting story that goes back to when he and Mom were UFO investigators. . . .

One day a guy contacted him and said he had a story for him, but it had nothing to do with UFOs. He told my dad that he’d recently bought a house and in the basement, there was a stain that wouldn’t go away.

He'd tried everything to get rid of it.

He even busted the concrete floor where the stain was and poured new concrete over it and still the stain came back.

He didn’t understand what was going on so he asked if my dad would come over and investigate it. My dad did and took a sample of the mysterious stain.

At that time, my dad had a lot of connections and gave the sample to an FBI agent to run some tests. A week or so later the agent contacted my dad and wanted to know where he got the sample from. My dad asked him why and the agent told him it was human blood. My dad let out a humorless laugh and said, "You’re not going to believe this but. . . ." And then he told him the story.

The guy who had bought the house, bought it cheap as an investment. Well, it turned out that the previous owner had killed his wife in the basement. So after my dad got the report from the agent, he called a guy that was well known and knew a lot about things like that. He told him the story and asked him what he should do.

The answer was simple.

Tear down the house.

The spirit wasn’t at rest, so the house needed to be destroyed.

My dad told his client the bad news, thinking there was no way he’d tear the house down, but he did. Fortunately, he had money and was able to do that. Afterward, he rebuilt another house in the same spot as the old one, and then called my dad back over.

The stain never reappeared.

Weird, huh?

Too bad they didn’t have DNA testing back then because then they could have found out if it matched the DNA of the murdered wife.

Interesting, huh?

Blurb:

Welcome to Mystic, Texas, where the past stays alive in more ways than one.

Vanessa Power, a budding Indie Romance author, believes the town is calling her name, being the new life and fresh start she’s craving.  She’s met an amazing group of women who have a regular book club, reading only Indie Authors.  Unfortunately, her new house is in worse shape than she thought, and holds more mysteries than she’s prepared for.

And then there’s the handyman.

Linc Patterson holds more mysteries than her house and the town combined, with a past he won’t reveal in a package that’s built for nothing short of sin.

Linc is captivated by his new boss, the only person in town who will give him a job, but only because she doesn’t know he’s an ex-con.  Can he keep his past locked away, while at the same time indulging in his fantasies with the pleasantly curvy and deliciously sexy Vanessa?  Probably not.

They are both looking for a new start in life.  Will they be able to find it together?

Mark your calendars for release May 25th!

UNEDITED excerpt:

“I wish I could watch him fix my house up all day.”

“Aren’t you married?” Kristie pointed out, to which Melanie only shrugged.
“Married.  Not dead.”

Vanessa blushed. “Yeah, he says he can fix it. It’s going to take a while though,” she hedged.

“Of course it will. You’re in the Evan’s place? He may need to rebuild it, that would take years,” Wren was grinning widely at her, and Vanessa had to admit the thought had crossed her mind.

“Yeah,” she repeated feeling a little stupid. “He’s certainly not hard to look at.”
Giggles and murmurs of ‘you get him girl’ echoed around her. “But doesn’t he have a girlfriend?” She remembered Cindy at the hardware store and the giggling in the background when she’d called.

Samantha wore a rare frown. “She’s temporary. You’re way better than she is.”

Okay, so there was a history here, and she was apparently the new piece of it. She wasn’t sure how she felt about that. Before she could wrap her head around it, the living room turned into chaos.

Wren’s wine glass flew out of her hand and spilled all over Kristie’s linen, issuing a shriek from the woman. “Dammit! Sam, can you get control of Addison? She does this shit every time I come over.”

Samantha was sheepish. “Sorry. She likes company.”

“Never at your house again.” Kristie rubbed frantically at her blouse, muttering very unladylike curses under her breath.

Vanessa was looking around for other people in the house, children maybe, she couldn’t see for some reason. Then she realized what she was doing. Looking for invisible kids. Nothing had touched Wren’s wine glass.

“Who is Addison?” She almost didn’t want to know the answer, especially after remembering the lotion incident.

“She’s my ghost,” Samantha said blithely as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

The words were spoken with so many undertones, Vanessa couldn’t comprehend them all at once. One, that it was obvious she had a ghost. Like a pet. Like everyone had one. Like it was normal. Vanessa took a sip of wine, trying not to jump to the conclusion her new friend was a few French fries short of a happy meal.

“Cool,” she said noncommittally, even though her mind raced with the events she’d felt at her own home. Walking around with cobwebs, cool hands… was that a ghost? No. No ghosts in her house. Her house was going to be an awesome home someday. She hadn’t signed up for ghosts.

Tiffany took a massive bite of sandwich and then spoke around her mouth full of food. “You probably have one too. They’re everywhere here.”

“What do you mean?” They were all nuts. But at least they seemed harmless. At least, that’s what people said until they pulled out the box of candles and live chickens. Her eyes darted around, looking for someplace to keep wildlife. It didn’t look like there was any place to store a sacrifice and she didn’t see a Ouija board anywhere…

“This town is built on some sort of fault line to the underworld,” Wren said. “The veil to the other side is thin in Mystic.” She shrugged, as if she hadn’t just spoken lines straight off a horror movie trailer. “You get used to it.”

Vanessa tried not to roll her eyes, even if this was a bunch of mumbo jumbo.
“Okay.” She hoped.

“I’ve got a ton of them at the museum. I think they come in with people’s stuff,” Kristie was trying to get the wine stain out of her pants. “But mine are way better behaved than Addison. Jesus. That girl will be the death of me.”

Vanessa took it all in stride, or at least she tried to. A haunted town? Not wanting her new friends to think she wasn’t a team player, she asked, “So, does every place have one?”

Melanie shrugged. “Yeah. Most of them, anyway. It takes a while with new places for them to imprint themselves.” Damn. She’d had high hopes for Melanie being the sane one—the voice of reason in the madness.

“So, what do they do? Mess with electrical stuff? Make people crawl on ceilings?” An uncomfortable laugh erupted from Vanessa, and she tried to hide it with stuffing a piece of cheesecake in her mouth.

“No, not really.” Kristie was still patting at her stain. “They just hang around. You can tell they’re there by the way they smell, sometimes they touch you and stuff. But Addison is a damn poltergeist, and she’s a total bitch.”

“So, they’re not out to get you or anything?” She was trying. Really.

“Hell no! I love mine,” Wren replied.

“Mine came with me when I moved here,” Tiffany offered. “He wasn’t around when I lived in Dallas, but when I moved here, he must have done what Kristie said, and come with my stuff, because something here makes him stay.” Her voice was funny, but Vanessa didn’t pry. It sounded like she had known her ghost in real life, and talking about it made her want to cry.
“The Pint has an old saloon girl. She pinches the guys’ butts and such. She likes to push couples together,” Sam was getting into it, her voice taking on a sing-songy quality, like any great story-teller. “The story goes, she was in love with the Sherriff, but he wouldn’t have her, since she was a lady of the night, and she hung herself.”

“Are they all attached to horrific stories?” Vanessa didn’t want to think about something awful happening in her home. She was still desperately trying to think of it in those terms, even though it didn’t look homey at all.

“No. Most of them are just old, dead people. That’s what mine is. I named her Kitty. I have no idea where she came from, but she’s there now. Smells like White Shoulders.” Kristie giggled like a kid, apparently having gotten over her anger at Addison.

Vanessa’s mind spun, wondering if she had a ghost, or if these women were total nut cases. Dear god. All her new friends were Looney Tunes.

#Authors Don’t Make This Mistake When You Decide On A Cover For Your Book.

5/01/2016 , , 0 Comments

Creating or choosing a book cover for your story is fun, exciting, and hard work.

It’s fun because you can play around with the ideas you have and then bring one of them to fruition so the world can literally see your vision.

It’s exciting because it represents the story you wrote. You created something out of nothing, and that’s pretty damn cool.

It’s hard work because of the process it takes to make it happen.

When you decide on a cover for your book, there’s one major mistake you don’t want to make: Don’t choose or create a cover that doesn’t fit the genre your story is in—even if you fall in love with it.

I’m going to show you an example of my recent mistake and what I did to correct it.

Last January I released Ameerah, which is a paranormal thriller. Here’s the original cover.

Gorgeous, huh? I love this cover. It’s stunning. My cover artist did an amazing job. I fell in love with it and thought since Ameerah was a flapper gal in 1925 before she was murdered, this cover was fitting.

Wrong!

Yes, I received loads of compliments and people gushed over it; however, I discovered there were readers who thought Ameerah was a historical romance, not a paranormal thriller.

Damn.

They were right.

Why didn’t I see that when I decided on this cover?

I know why.

Love is blind.

I never even took into consideration the image didn’t reflect the genre Ameerah’s tale was in.

*slaps forehead*

I then did a do over. At first, it hurt. I mean, I really love this cover, but I realized if I didn’t fix this, I’d be losing sales.

I love Ameerah.

The world needs to know about her story; therefore, I had to do what was necessary and in my power to make that happen so I did.

Here’s the new cover.

I have to say, I’m in awe with this one. The images are perfect, and after Ameerah dies in 1925, she crosses a bridge.

Perfect.

And this totally reflects the genre the story is in.

In closing, don’t make that one huge mistake I made. Always choose/create a book cover that mirrors the genre your story is in. Always.

Here are the buy links if you want to check out Ameerah’s story:
