About the Author

majanka

Majanka Verstraete begged her Mom to teach her how to read while she was still in kindergarten. By the time she finished fifth grade, she had read through the entire children’s section of her hometown library.

She wrote her first story when she was seven years old, and hasn’t stopped writing since. With an imagination that never sleeps, and hundreds of possible book characters screaming for her attention, writing is more than a passion for her.

She writes about all things supernatural for children of all ages. She’s tried to write contemporary novels before, but something paranormal always manages to crawl in.

Majanka is currently studying for her Master of Laws degree, and hopes one day to be able to combine her passions for law and writing. When she’s not writing, reading or studying, she likes watching “The Vampire Diaries” and “Game of Thrones,” spending time with her friends, or playing “World of Warcraft.”

Author-Bio

Emily W Skinner

Emily had a goal when she was 15, she would have a daughter named Marquel and write a novel titled "Marquel." She accomplished both and more.
A member of The International Thriller Writers, Emily was a protege of the late master of the pulps or paperback originals, Harry Whittington. Emily interviewed Whittington during her days as a feature writer for the Clearwater Sun daily newspaper and its weekly division. They became friends and he taught her how to plot and gave her approval of the original outline and sample chapter for "Marquel" shortly before he died in 1989.
After Whittington passed away, Emily challenged herself to write as her mentor did and wrote a chapter a day and finished the novel "Marquel" in 52 days. For more details on the novel's history read:http://www.thefilmmom.blogspot.com/20...
Fast forward, a second daughter, Blair is born and Emily and husband Tom focus on raising their family. Both daughters are now grown and work in Hollywood. So this might be an example of art imitating life or the reverse?
A devoted Catholic, Emily is rekindling her love for writing and has just completed the movie script for "Marquel" and a young adult paranormal appropriately named after her youngest child, "St. Blair: Children of the Night." She will begin the sequel to "Marquel" in the coming months, currently untitled.
When Emily isn't working as a marketing consultant or writing, she enjoys antiquing/thrifting and producing short films. Emily is the proud Executive Producer of Blair Skinner's film "Relative Eternity," a 2012 LA Shorts Film Festival selection, Sunscreen Film Festival selection and Short Film Corner Festival de Cannes selection. Written, directed and edited by Blair Skinner, "Relative Eternity" is on snagfilms.com for your viewing pleasure. It is free to view.

Blog Tour & Giveaway! Escape From Witchwood Hollow by Jordan Elizabeth

How far into the hollow would you go?

After losing her parents in a terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, fifteen-year-old Honoria escapes New York City to Arnn—a farming town with more legends than residents, and a history of witchcraft and secrets best left buried.

Everyone in Arnn knows the story of Witchwood Hollow: if you venture into the whispering forest, the witch will trap your soul among the shadowed trees. In the lure of that perpetual darkness, Honoria finds hope when she should be afraid, and a past of missing children and broken promises.  To save the citizens of Arnn from becoming the witch’s next victims, she must find the truth behind the woman’s madness. How deep into Witchwood Hollow does Honoria dare venture?”

ESCAPE FROM WITCHWOOD HOLLOW is Jordan Elizabeth’s first novel.  This young adult fantasy, published through Curiosity Quills Press, is now available for purchase.

Jordan Elizabeth, formally Jordan Elizabeth Mierek, can’t get enough of the woods, be it splashing through a stream, sitting beneath an ancient oak, or following a path up a hill.  Some of those adventures have led to abandoned foundations.  Exploring the rocks and crumbling bricks sparked Jordan to imagine who might have lived there before, and that train of thought carried her to a wicked legend and an enchanted hollow.  You can contact Jordan via her website, JordanElizabethMierek.com.

Excerpt from
ESCAPE FROM WITCHWOOD HOLLOW

Two miles from Honoria’s stone house, they stopped the four-wheelers beside a crop of forest.
Harley removed her helmet and shook out her short ponytail. “Welcome to Witchwood Hollow.”
“Enter if you want to doom your soul.” Amanda cackled a laugh.
“This place?” Honoria swung off the ATV. The dark trees resembled the other woodlands they’d passed along the road. The two girls had be playing an elaborate joke. Maybe they would include her when they did the same to the next new student.
“How far do you dare go in?” Amanda set her helmet on the seat behind her.
Honoria walked to where weeds and ferns grew over the ditch. They seemed to wave her in as the wind stirred them. “So, I walk in and this witch grabs me?”
“And doesn’t let you out,” Harley added.
Amanda whistled. “Spooky.”
Honoria drew a deep breath. No more going day by day, seeing what happened next. She would make it in. She would live.
She’d come this far.
She picked her way through the vegetation. Briars caught on her jeans. Go back, they seemed to say, or we will prick your heart. A sweet, earthy scent tickled her nose. Stepping deeper into the woods, autumn leaves created a shield around her as damp soil sucked at the soles of her sneakers. The darkness became an envelope and she the letter, seeking a destination she couldn’t foresee.
“Hey.” Amanda’s call pierced her mind.
Honoria stumbled, grabbing a thin tree for support, and glanced back. The road peeped at her through the trunks and bushes. Did I really walk all this way without realizing it?
Something beckoned her on, a silent call. Once she reached it, she would be complete. All her fantasies would greet her.
“Wow, you are tough.” Harley’s laugh sounded too shrill.
“Come on out.” Amanda’s voice wavered.
“I will,” Honoria whispered. “Just a little further.”
The beckon soaked through her skin into her nerves, mingling with the blood in her veins. The gentle call caressed her ears.
“Honoria, come to me….”
She pushed through the trees at a run, heading deeper into the darkness.
“Keep coming, Honoria. Come to me faster.”
“I’m coming.” The darkness slipped by her as though she parted a cloak. The folds would close and that warmth would seal her inside.

  Excerpt 1

My entire body pulses in the wake of his touch. His words “if you were mine” keep circling around in my head, and with each rotation, something inside me grows. He makes me feel happy and less broken. I feel I could take on the world as long as he’s beside me. Whatever he is, I don’t care. I’ve never felt anything like this, and I’ll go to Hell and back to keep it. Regardless of what happens to me, I have to protect him. I have to keep him safe, always.
He grins and squeezes my hand again. My body responds with such intensity, I almost feel as if I were floating. I don’t want it to ever stop. I want to stay strong. I want to be brave. I want to feel safe. He gives me all of that. I want to hold him forever, even if it’s only his hand.
“Tomorrow,” he says, pulling me from my thoughts. “I’ll find a way to see you.”
“Promise?”

Cover Reveal! The Rose Master by Valentina Cano

I had the pleasure of reading this book at the beginning stages of its creation. I loved it. Valentina is an excellent author and one to follow. Her writing style is poetic and lyrical. You so need to check this book out.

Blurb:

The day Anne Tinning turns seventeen, birds fall from the sky. But that's hardly the most upsetting news. She's being dismissed from the home she's served at since she was a child, and shipped off to become the newly hired parlor maid for a place she's never heard of. And when she sees the run-down, isolated house, she instantly knows why:

There's something wrong with Rosewood Manor.

Staffed with only three other servants, all gripped by icy silence and inexplicable bruises, and inhabited by a young master who is as cold as the place itself, the house is shrouded in neglect and thick with fear. Her questions are met with hushed whispers, and she soon finds herself alone in the empty halls, left to tidy and clean rooms no one visits.

As the feeling of being watched grows, she begins to realize there is something else in the house with them--some creature that stalks the frozen halls and claws at her door. A creature that seems intent on harming her.

When a fire leaves Anne trapped in the manor with its Master, she finally demands to know why. But as she forces the truth about what haunts the grounds from Lord Grey, she learns secrets she isn't prepared for. The creature is very real, and she's the only one who can help him stop it.

Now, Anne must either risk her life for the young man she's grown to admire, or abandon her post while she still can.

Happy Friday!

Beyond the Eyes–Now .99 Cents For A Limited Time.

Sometimes I can be such a dingbat, but we all have our moments, right? When I was doing my last post for author Felicia Tatum, I realized I never told you guys that the Kindle version of Beyond the Eyes is on sale.

*slaps forehead*

Duh!

I’m soooo not good at marketing, but I’m trying.

Anyway, to celebrate the release of my second book (Dark Spirits) in my YA paranormal series, Beyond the Eyes is on sale for just .99 cents. It’s for a limited time. The following review I received will give you an idea on what to expect. This reader did an excellent job with her review, and she gave me five stars, which was the icing on the cake.

Review:

I'm a big fan of the paranormal and YA books. The cover art of Beyond the Eyes caught my attention, and after I read the description, I just had to buy it.

I thought the character of Paige Reed was very refreshing. I like characters who experience growth. At the start of the book this character is a very vulnerable 17 year-old who really has no family in her life. She relies upon friends to fill this void, and I absolutely love that. The friends were different and quirky, but also very supportive - which is a good combination to have.

Rebekkah Ford does a wonderful job of conveying daily life of teenagers. We follow Paige through a school day, on a date, chatting with friends, etc. It has been a long time since I've been in high school, but I felt like the naivety and purity of the young teenage experience is captured in such a beautiful way in this book, that it felt like I was in high school again (in a good way).

Without giving any spoilers away, the story follows a young girl during a huge loss in her life. It is at a time where an underlying truth is told to her and she has a huge decision to make. Throw on a first love, a love triangle, an enchanted object, premonitions, and attempts on her life, and you have one fabulous story that just begs for a part 2 and (hopefully) a part 3.

I was really excited about the love triangle aspect and I am hoping to see more of Brayden in the next book. I think Rebekkah Ford has really set up the sequel nicely for this character. The love interest, Nathan, is portrayed as the sweet, ever-caring, gorgeous boyfriend (and heck, who wouldn't fall instantly in love with him?) and I think Nathan and Brayden play well off of each other. I'm hoping the next book really expands upon the conflict of these three characters. Sorry, I can't share more due to spoilers.

I was shocked by another review of this story that claimed that the character Paige cried too much. Given how much turmoil is in her life, and at such a young age that she is experiencing it, I think the character was quite strong. She would tell herself not to cry during stressful times, but then would cry and fall apart (like any teenage girl with no family support) would afterwards. I found her weaknesses to be believable, and I loved the growth she had throughout the story. The Paige at the start of the book is not the same young woman we find at the end. My hope is that she continues to grow in the following books since I do plan on buying them.
