Bottom Drawer Publications is excited to be taking Through the Fire, a new adult, paranormal romance by Michelle Irwin, on tour.

Book Details: Novel
Genre: NA, Paranormal Romance
Release Date: October 31, 2014

Blurb:

Evie Meyers’ life is one spent on the run. Every minute of every day, her life is in danger if anyone should suspect the truth about her ancestry. Her father was willing to risk everything to keep the truth hidden, even from her, but the lies he fabricated were exposed when her high school crush, Clay Jacobs, inadvertently stumbled upon her secret. His discovery puts Evie at risk from a secret organization tasked with washing the world clean of nonhumans—and Clay is one of its deadliest soldiers. Forced into a war she doesn’t understand, all because of what she is, Evie is left with no choice but to flee with her father to escape persecution.

When Clay reappears in her life, battle scarred and mysterious, Evie is unprepared and terrified as he forces his way back into her heart. When the battle catches up with her, and a tragic accident tears apart the peace she discovered, she finds herself alone and without the protection of her father, or her lover. Now, she needs to keep her secrets hidden and learn to survive on her own in a world that wants her dead, all while searching for the missing piece of her heart.

Exclusive Excerpt:

The moment Dad pulled up onto the drive, I stormed downstairs, determined to not let one more day filled with lies pass by.
When I saw him standing in the kitchen with arms full of groceries, I saw red.
“What am I?” I asked angrily, leaving him no room to doubt my certainty that I was something else.
When the bags he’d been carrying smashed to the ground, I knew he’d heard the question and understood the implications behind it. Ignoring the mess on the floor, he turned to face me. His eyes met mine for a moment, but he didn’t say anything.
I took a step closer. “What am I?”
His face was completely drained of blood as he stared at me in surprise. His mouth opened and closed silently a few times before he bowed his head.
“You’re my daughter,” he whispered finally, as if that was even close to the answer I’d been looking for.
“But what am I?”
“It’s hard to explain, Evie.” His voice was almost silent, and I wanted to shake him and demand he tell me more. Now.
“Try!”
“I wanted to tell you.”
I shook my head vigorously to stop his excuses. “You’ve been lying to me!” I felt my anger bubbling away, boiling the blood just beneath the surface of my skin. The sensation in my fingertips from earlier returned in force, bringing with it a burn that raced across the skin of my hands and up along my arms. “All of my life, you’ve lied to me!”
“No,” he said with conviction. “I’ve never ever lied to you. I just . . . haven’t told you everything, but how could I? It was too dangerous for you to know the truth.”
“Which is?” I wanted to make it clear that I was not going to back down. I would no longer accept half-truths and diversions. It was time that I knew exactly why we’d been running all of my life—and what we were running from.
“It’s still too dang—”
I cut him off with a glare. “I deserve to know.”
“It’s a long story. I’m not sure I even know where to begin.”
“No, Dad, don’t do this.” My tone left no room for argument. “Don’t hide it from me anymore. I need some real answers!” I slapped my hand against the kitchen bench twice to emphasis my point. The laminate boiled and blistered beneath my fingers. Tendrils of smoke curled around the blackened outline of my handprint. “What the hell?” I squeaked as I stared at the bench in shock and nursed my hands carefully as a lingering burn pricked them like pins and needles.

About the Author:

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page.

Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under with her surprisingly patient husband and ever-intriguing daughter, carving out precious moments of writing and reading time around her accounts-based day job. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she primarily writes paranormal and fantasy romance.

How To Create A Facebook Book Release Party.

Are you an author who will be releasing your novel in the future?

Would you like to create more buzz and gain some readers for your book?

A Facebook book release party can help you get the word out about your new release and generate excitement for the story you created. If anything, it’s a chance for you to build a relationship with readers and to form new friendships and contacts. I’ve met some awesome peeps and have gain new readers and followers with every Facebook party I’ve done.

How do you create a book release bash on Facebook?

Here’s how . . .

On Facebook, to the left of your screen is an “event” icon. You need to click on it. In the next field to the left of your screen is a “create” icon. Click on it. Now you can type in the name of your event, the description, where, the date and time. Invite your friends.

Banner.

What?

You need to make a banner to advertise your party.

How in the bloody hell do I do that?

Pizap!

What the freak is Pizap?

Pizap is a user friendly site where you can make banners and posters for your books. I love their website. I suck at technology, so if I can figure out how to use it you can too.

Here’s the link: http://www.pizap.com/

I’ll be doing a Facebook release party for Tangled Roots in October, so I’ll share with you a banner I created on Pizap.

I’m not sure if I’m going to use this one, but I wanted to give you an example of what I’m talking about.

Anyway, I suggest you create your event two or three weeks ahead of time, so you can get more people to join. Ask your friends to invite theirs. Better yet, do a giveaway on your event page, like a signed paperback copy when you reach a certain amount of people attending the party. Keep engaging the peeps who are going and work on more invites. Share teasers or videos. Maybe have another person on board to help you keep the excitement rolling.

One thing you can do beforehand is learn from other authors. Watch and take notes on how they run their Facebook parties.

Giveaways.

What should I giveaway? I mean, really, I’m not made of money, so how can I afford to throw in prizes for my shindig?

Here are some ideas that won't break your pocketbook.

Giveaway an ebook of your story. It won’t cost you a cent. Ask other authors if they will donate an ebook. Nine times out of ten, they will, because most authors are generous and it helps get the word out about their books. You can also giveaway signed paperback copies, which readers adore. Another idea is rack cards you can create on Vistaprint. People also love Amazon gift cards. A five dollar gift card is reasonable.

F.Y.I. if an author donates something to your party, make sure to do something for him or her in return, like get more likes for his Facebook author page.

Example from my last book release party:
(This is what you would write in a post during your event)

Giveaway #3

For an ecopy of Revenge From Mars by Todd Embry, like his page and tell him Rebekkah thinks he’s sweet. (his link would go here so peeps can click on it).

Engage.

Try to get people involve with each giveaway you post.

Make it fun!

Post a goofy picture and say, “Caption this. You have 15 minutes.” When the time is up post: *************CLOSED************ Then post the winner of whatever you’re giving away. You can choose the winner in this example by which caption made you laugh the most, or you can use Random.org. If you use Random's website, make sure the peeps who participate chooses a number and mention it in the post.

Example:

Giveaway #5

For a rack card and magnet of Tangled Roots, caption this picture and choose a number between 1-100. You have 15 minutes. I’ll be using Random.org to pick a winner.

See how the process works?

Btw, before you start your party, make sure you post something like, Facebook is not affiliated or responsible for this event. Something along those lines.

I hope what I posted helps you. I know when I started out, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing and had to learn the ropes from other authors.

Cheers!

Prerelease Jitters

Okay, you guys, I’m getting close to publishing Dark Spirits, and I’m starting to get really nervous about it. I don’t have a release date yet because I’m waiting on a few things. I’m also going to have Beckstar Reviews, read it before it gets published and have an internet party, which you’re all invited to. Of course, there will be awesome giveaways. So I’ll letcha know when that takes place. BTW–my Facebook address to my author page is: http://www.Facebook.com/RebekkahFord2012

I’m going to be doing two blog tours for each book (Beyond the Eyes and Dark Spirits). First, the Beyond the Eyes’ tour, and then the Dark Spirits’ tour. After Beyond the Eyes came out, I did a blog tour myself, but honestly I think somebody who coordinates blog tours all the time, will do a much better job than me. So hopefully it’ll go over well.

In Dark Spirits, Paige is learning how to acclimate to her “new” life. She begins to discover powers, she never knew she had. The dark spirits get bolder and confront Paige and Nathan on several occasions. The first group is on the “old one’s” side, but the second group, led by an ancient dark spirit named Volac, is totally against the “old one’s” plans, and they want to destroy Paige. A war is brewing between the two groups, which sets the stage for the third book ‘The Devil’s Third.’ Paige and Nathan are also having problems in their relationship. And then Brayden comes back into town . . . yes, there's a love triangle here. Carrie and Tree play a much bigger role in this book, and in the third one as well.

Here are the two testimonies I received from the authors who read the ARC to Dark Spirits:

Even more thrilling than the first. This is a captivating series you won’t put down and will leave you hungry for more.”–Felicia Tatum, author of The White Aura

Paige is a strong courageous character and Dark Spirits will make your heart pound with the emotion and action!”–Julie Huss author of the I Am Just Junco series

So now my nervous self is going to leave you with one word that describes how I’m feeling right now.

YIKES!”

Fingers Crossed

I’ve been feverishly working on reviewing my ebook and checking for errors this week. Now, I’m doing the same with my paperback book. It looks like though, I’ll be able to upload my book to Kindle & ebook in less than a week.

Yay.

So if everything goes well, my book may be available on Kindle & ebooks by this time next week.

*fingers and piggies crossed*

And then, hopefully my paperback book will be available within a couple weeks. I am going to get an ARC (advanced readers copy) before I ok it to publication, so that may take a week. But I rather it takes a little bit longer than to be mortified by something I wouldn’t be able to change afterwards. If that makes sense.

I’m going to be doing some blog interviews in the near future. I’m working on setting them up right now and will post each blog site I hopscotch to in this blog. There will also be reviews on my book and giveaways. I’ll keep you up-to-date on everything. I imagine though, marketing my book will be an ongoing process for a while.

Anyway, I still have a ton of things to do, but thank God it’s Friday. :)

Happy Friday!
