How To Create A Facebook Book Release Party.

Are you an author who will be releasing your novel in the future?

Would you like to create more buzz and gain some readers for your book?

A Facebook book release party can help you get the word out about your new release and generate excitement for the story you created. If anything, it’s a chance for you to build a relationship with readers and to form new friendships and contacts. I’ve met some awesome peeps and have gain new readers and followers with every Facebook party I’ve done.

How do you create a book release bash on Facebook?

Here’s how . . .

On Facebook, to the left of your screen is an “event” icon. You need to click on it. In the next field to the left of your screen is a “create” icon. Click on it. Now you can type in the name of your event, the description, where, the date and time. Invite your friends.

Banner.

What?

You need to make a banner to advertise your party.

How in the bloody hell do I do that?

Pizap!

What the freak is Pizap?

Pizap is a user friendly site where you can make banners and posters for your books. I love their website. I suck at technology, so if I can figure out how to use it you can too.

Here’s the link: http://www.pizap.com/

I’ll be doing a Facebook release party for Tangled Roots in October, so I’ll share with you a banner I created on Pizap.

I’m not sure if I’m going to use this one, but I wanted to give you an example of what I’m talking about.

Anyway, I suggest you create your event two or three weeks ahead of time, so you can get more people to join. Ask your friends to invite theirs. Better yet, do a giveaway on your event page, like a signed paperback copy when you reach a certain amount of people attending the party. Keep engaging the peeps who are going and work on more invites. Share teasers or videos. Maybe have another person on board to help you keep the excitement rolling.

One thing you can do beforehand is learn from other authors. Watch and take notes on how they run their Facebook parties.

Giveaways.

What should I giveaway? I mean, really, I’m not made of money, so how can I afford to throw in prizes for my shindig?

Here are some ideas that won't break your pocketbook.

Giveaway an ebook of your story. It won’t cost you a cent. Ask other authors if they will donate an ebook. Nine times out of ten, they will, because most authors are generous and it helps get the word out about their books. You can also giveaway signed paperback copies, which readers adore. Another idea is rack cards you can create on Vistaprint. People also love Amazon gift cards. A five dollar gift card is reasonable.

F.Y.I. if an author donates something to your party, make sure to do something for him or her in return, like get more likes for his Facebook author page.

Example from my last book release party:
(This is what you would write in a post during your event)

Giveaway #3

For an ecopy of Revenge From Mars by Todd Embry, like his page and tell him Rebekkah thinks he’s sweet. (his link would go here so peeps can click on it).

Engage.

Try to get people involve with each giveaway you post.

Make it fun!

Post a goofy picture and say, “Caption this. You have 15 minutes.” When the time is up post: *************CLOSED************ Then post the winner of whatever you’re giving away. You can choose the winner in this example by which caption made you laugh the most, or you can use Random.org. If you use Random's website, make sure the peeps who participate chooses a number and mention it in the post.

Example:

Giveaway #5

For a rack card and magnet of Tangled Roots, caption this picture and choose a number between 1-100. You have 15 minutes. I’ll be using Random.org to pick a winner.

See how the process works?

Btw, before you start your party, make sure you post something like, Facebook is not affiliated or responsible for this event. Something along those lines.

I hope what I posted helps you. I know when I started out, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing and had to learn the ropes from other authors.

Cheers!

Book Feature! Dark Illusions The Next Chapter by Ariana Browning

Yay, book feature!
I read Ariana’s first novel in this series called, Dark Illusions The Beginning, and I really liked it. I’m looking forward to reading this one as well.

BLURB:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Charismatic Goddess and Butt-Kickin Billionairess in the making.
Most of the books Ariana Browning writes comes from her dreams. The characters constantly knock on the door in her head and adamantly refuse to go away, until she tells their story to you.
When she’s not writing, she’s tending to her animals and gardening, or rebuilding and repairing the house she lives in. Never one to sit still for long, she constantly is working on something, or changing people's lives. Find all her projects on her website (arianabrowning.com), or contact her with email ahbrowne AT ahbrowne DOT com.
She can be caught on Facebook and most of the other online social networks, or her official site, annoying most people with her sometimes-too-happy-for-her-own-good attitude. Join her to follow along with some amazing friends, and some thought-pondering questions she asks like: what is your favorite color? Or, perhaps, how she’ll sometimes light a fire under you and open your eyes with deeper questions that you’ll have to come by and find out for yourself.

WHERE TO PURCHASE DARK ILLUSIONS THE NEXT CHAPTER:

Book Feature-Finding My Way Back by Fran Veal

I have another wonderful book feature for you guys. Check it out!

Blurb:

Three weeks ago I walked in while my parents were being murdered. I escaped, but I need to put my life back together again. There's just one problem - I don't know where to begin.

My parents weren't who I thought they were.
My best friend isn't who I thought he was.
The killer isn't who I thought he was.
And scariest of all, I'm not who I thought I was.

Excerpt:

Liz knew she needed to tell Hannah soon. She’d hoped she’d be able to confirm her belief about the island first. Charles argued that they needed to tell Hannah everything before they excavated. Just in case.

"All right," she finally agreed, closing the box and turning the tumblers to lock it. "We’ll talk to Hannah about it tomorrow."

As she was turning the last of the tumblers, the doorbell rang, and Charles went to answer it.

"Yes?" she heard her husband ask.

"Hello, Charles," a man’s voice spoke. "Where’s your wife?"

Liz felt her knees grow weak. The man’s voice was malicious. Cruel.

Her intuition told her what was happening. Somehow, the Others had learned what she’d found, and they’d sent someone to get the location.

She had to hide the box. She ran out to the garage, looking around frantically, her eyes falling on a spot that might work. She shoved the box inside, and then ran back in the house to help her husband. As her foot crossed the threshold of the kitchen, she heard a shot. She grabbed the door jamb and covered her mouth to stifle the sound of her scream. She heard a thud. Charles…

Footsteps headed toward the kitchen, and she looked wildly around the room for any kind of weapon. The man walked in, brandishing a knife before she could find one.

"Hello, Liz. I believe you have something I want."

Liz sank to the floor, her body wracked with sobs.

I’m so sorry, Hannah.

Author Bio:

Fran Veal fell in love with the book Little Women in the third grade, and that was the spark that ignited her desire to write. If Jo could write then she felt she could, too. Her first attempt at writing stories was in the fifth grade when she began writing and drawing a cartoon for her friends. The drawing, to be honest, was terrible, but the stories must have been pretty decent because a friend recently informed her she'd kept some of them because "she always knew Fran would be a writer someday." Fran graduated to writing romance in ninth grade, which was more interesting and, no, there were no pictures (much to the readers' relief).

It wasn’t until Fran had a teen daughter of her own that she actually began writing again. Finding My Escape was her debut novel. The sequel, Finding My Way Back will be released August 23, 2013 with the third and final book in the series coming out in early 2014. She’s also working on a comedy geared more toward adults, Five Strikes, with fellow writer, Bryden Lloyd.

Fran currently resides in the beautiful city of Murfreesboro, TN with her husband of twenty-seven years, fifteen year old daughter, and one extremely snarky cat.

Book Feature-Acts of Life by Merita King

Today I’m featuring a wonderful book called Acts of Life by Merita King. The cover of this book is awesome, don’t you think?

Now, let’s get to the blurb, excerpt, Merita’s bio and where you can purchase Acts of Life.

Blurb:
Jake Elloway has a glittering career as one of Earth’s most celebrated vidicom movie stars and enjoys his privileged lifestyle to the full. An arrogant megalomaniac, Jake is handsome and talented, but selfish and indulgent. When he is offered a role that is something of a departure from the muscle bound action heroes he usually plays, he is hesitant to accept. Persuaded by his Personal Assistant to take the role, Jake reluctantly agrees to spend three months living and working aboard an inter galactic freight liner as research for this new role, and hopes that his new environment will afford him plenty of beautiful female fans to seduce.

Life aboard the Mayan Queen quickly proves to be anything but comfortable, and when the vessel is boarded by pirates intent on kidnapping Jake for a substantial ransom, he realises that not everyone aboard is keen to protect him. When the small group of friends make a desperate bid for freedom, a new nightmare begins.

Excerpt:

Shib looked at the sensor readout and nodded. He was pleased that his calculations were correct and the shuttle did have enough power to get them to Tellizon 4 but he was a little worried about how his companions would survive the landing. He wondered whether to tell them or not and decided that honesty is always the best policy.

"Gentlemen?" he called.

"Yeah buddy," Nef replied.

"We’re approaching the Tellizon system now and we do have enough power in the cells to reach the fourth planet."

"That’s fantastic." The group sighed with relief and grinned at each other.

"However," Shib continued, "we don’t have enough to control our landing."

"Oh shit," Crib hissed.

"What?" Jake exclaimed. "You mean we’re gonna crash after coming all this way? What the fuck?"

"Our power will run out approximately two thirds the way into our landing manoeuver, which will mean we have to glide our way in and our landing won’t be the most comfortable."

"How long do we have?" Manlee asked.

"Forty six minutes," Shib replied.

"Okay everyone, lock down," Nef yelled and the group leapt up, leaving Jake sitting there wondering what was going on.

"What can I do?"

"We have to lock down everything that isn’t already bolted down," Crib called. "Anything loose could take off your head when we touch down so either tie it down, lock it up, stuff it somewhere or sit on it. Whatever works for ya buddy, just use your initiative."

"Oh shit," Jake hissed as he too, leapt up. "Okay, yeah." He looked around and saw several boxes at the back of the shuttle, stacked together. He ran over, grabbed one, and looked around for somewhere to put it. He was about to despair when he saw the door to the toilet standing open. He stacked the boxes in the toilet cubicle, along with the ten emergency space suits he found stuffed into a corner, the boxes of emergency ration packs and a toolbox full of tools. He checked and double checked the rear section for anything loose and found nothing more so he shut the toilet cubicle door and went to join the others.

"Everything clear down the back Jake?" Ace asked and he nodded.

"Yeah, I stuffed everything into the toilet so y’all are gonna have to piss ya pants," he replied. Everyone looked round at him and one by one, started to laugh.

Manlee came rushing over and handed everyone a small package.

"Here ya go guys; I found these under a seat."

Jake took one and turned it over in his hands. It was roughly six inches square and wrapped in some kind of clear film.

"What’s this?" he asked.

"It’s a crash collar," Nef replied. "Open it up and unfold it." Jake found what looked like a twelve-inch-by-twelve-inch inflatable cushion three inches thick, with two stiff, three-inch wide bands attached to one side.

"You blow it up by pulling out that plug there," he said as he pointed to a small nipple in one corner, which Jake pulled and watched as the cushion immediately inflated.

"Then you put the two bands around your neck," Nef continued as he demonstrated, "with the cushion at the back of your head. Once we’re strapped into our seats, these will ensure that your head and neck are stabilized so that the movement of the crashing shuttle doesn’t cause your head to rock back and forth enough to damage your neck."

"Oh I see," he nodded. "Neat, thanks. I may have two broken legs and a shattered pelvis but at least I won’t have a crick in my neck." Guffaws once again filled the shuttle and this time, Manlee was amongst them.

"I would urge you all to buckle up now gentlemen," Shib called and the group leapt back into their seats and strapped themselves in. Jake struggled with his until Nef came to his aid, before strapping his backpack to a bulkhead and jumping back into his own seat.

"I’m trying to ensure we land as near as possible to one of the scientific outposts but as we will be gliding in, I cannot be accurate as to exactly how far away we will be."

"We trust you buddy," Ace yelled as the shuttle gave a lurch and Jake went white.

"It’s okay Jake," Manlee said from the next seat. "It’s just the natural turbulence of re-entry. Once we’re through the outer atmosphere things will calm down."

Jake looked at Manlee as much as the crash collar would allow and tried to smile but he was terrified and it showed.

"It didn’t jump around this much when Shib flew me up to the Mayan Queen," he remarked.

"We are going a hundred times the speed now Jake," Shib called. "And it is essential that I lower our speed considerably if we are to have a chance of survival. To do this I have to turn the ship’s nose up slightly so that we’re effectively in the belly flop posture. This is extremely un-aerodynamic which is the cause of the turbulence. Once we’re down further I can get the nose down a little and things will calm down, trust me."

"Okay," Jake hissed. "I choose to trust you buddy."

The shuttle shot down through the outer atmosphere of Tellizon 4, the belly of the craft soon becoming white-hot and the turbulence rougher with each passing second. Jake was convinced that they were going to break up any second and although not a religious man in any sense of the word, he prayed for deliverance. All at once, they broke through the cloud layer and into the bluest sky any of them had ever seen and as Shib brought the nose down and the turbulence disappeared, the engines died. The shuttle glided silently down and those in the nearest seats to the cockpit craned their necks to see out of the windows. Thick forest met their eyes and Ace wished he had not bothered to look. He turned away and gulped.

"What?" Jake asked when he noticed him pale. "What did you see?"

"It’s thick forest down there," he replied.

"Oh shit," Nef exclaimed and closed his eyes."

"So I guess that’s a bad thing huh?" Jake asked, his eyes darting from Ace to Nef and back again.

"It’s certainly not the best thing we could’ve hoped for," Nef replied.

"Why not? Won’t the trees help to break our fall or something?"

"Unfortunately not," Manlee cut in. "The first moment we hit a tree, the momentum will flip us over and we’ll end up cartwheeling down through the trees. This is probably gonna hurt guys."

"But won’t they just break under our weight?"

"This shuttle is too small and at the speed we’re traveling, any sudden change of balance will have a massive effect on the whole craft."

"For fuck’s sake," Jake hissed. "This movie better break the box office records or I’m gonna be seriously pissed."

"What’s the movie called Jake?" Manlee asked. "You never told us."

"Acts of Life," he replied. "It’s a play on words y’see. Facts of life to acts of life. It’s about this man going through a traumatic experience, but it’s also about him facing up to his life and how he gets to know himself, the real guy within and how that changes him into a better person. Up to then he’s been something he’s not, hiding behind a mask designed to keep the real person hidden away from sight and it’s all about how he finds himself again, the real person. So instead of acting someone he’s not, he becomes his true self. Y’see? Acts of Life."

"That’s a nice title," Ace said and Crib nodded. "Clever."

"Thanks," Jake smiled. "Actually I thought of it myself."

"That shows insight Jake," Manlee said. Before Jake could reply, there was an almighty bang, the shuttle lurched violently up at the rear, and everyone found themselves momentarily upside down as the craft cartwheeled twice through the air. Shib fought with the emergency glide controls and managed to right the shuttle moments before it hit the ground belly down with a bone wrenching crunch and slid several hundred yards; coming to rest facing back the way they’d come.
