There is also a lot of love, devotion, and friendship.

Warning: This book is designed for audiences 18+ due to language, graphic sexual content, and themes that some may find disturbing. MIND is book 2 of a three-part trilogy. Body (Trinity Trilogy - Book 1) must be read prior to reading MIND.

Review

I was hooked on this trilogy by about page 4 of Body. This second installment is amazing! I love where the story is going and I cannot wait to see how it ends. This book is a bit darker than the first one, and we get to crawl into the mind of Gillian’s stalker and see how he ticks. I could not put the book down, and in fact, I have read it more than once it is that good.

Now that Chase and Gillian are planning the wedding, things are moving quickly. She is going to move into the penthouse, and Maria is going to move into a condo. Security is tight around Gillian. The press is ripping into her, so the besos are rallying around her. Chase gets his way and is moving the wedding from a year to only six weeks away. The stalker has her apartment wired and hears this, which kicks his plans into high gear. But they do not know that the bad guy is going to take all of her friends away from her so that Gillian will only have him to turn to. And the starker has no problems with other people getting caught in the crossfire.

When one of the group is targeted and gets hurt by a bomb, Gillian’s world gets turned on its head. Someone of their group has a surprising announcement, and with the wedding on hold, Gillian’s demons come back. Between the flashbacks and the nightmares, she is a mess. The whole group is taken through hell and back with the stalker working hard at eliminating each of them. And he might just succeed. But Gillian and Chase might be focusing on the wrong person. When their target tears into their world and is thwarted, they might have let their guard down too much, and the happiest day of Gillian’s life might not be so.

I loved this book and I cannot wait for the next one. The cliffhanger nearly had me chucking my kindle across the room. I knew it would happen, but it still had me catching my breath. This is a great trilogy, and if you love sexy men, feisty women, and a huge dose of suspense, grab this book. It is full of surprises and twists and turns.

When somebody asks me what my favorite book is, more than a few automatically pop in my head: 1984 by George Orwell, The Stand by Stephen King, Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. I love them all and have read them more than once and will probably read them again in the future.

I grew up reading Anne Rice’s vampire chronicles, and if you haven’t read Interview With the Vampire and love those types of stories, I suggest you go on Amazon and buy it pronto. She is the Godmother of Vampire stories.

Interview With the Vampire is about Louis who became a vampire in 1791 at the age of 25. He was living in Louisiana. He had a plantation on the Mississippi, near New Orleans. After his brother died, Louis drank all the time and lived like a man who wanted to die but didn’t have the courage to do it himself. In his heart, he truly wished to be murdered. He tempted fate several times by walking the black streets and alleys alone and passing out in cabarets. One night he was attacked, just a few steps from his door. Not by a disgruntled sailor or thief, but by a vampire.

The vampire Lestat.

Both Lewis and Lestat are great characters.

If you haven’t read this book . . . trust me, they are.

Lestat is arrogant, impetuous, a nonconformist, self-involved, yet in his heart he’s lonely and seeks answers to his deepest desires. He gave Louis the “dark gift” as he calls it, because not only did he want Louis' wealth but his companionship as well.

This tale is a very dark and romantic one in a sense that it romances vampirism. Anne Rice did a fabulous job with this story, so much so, it makes you wonder if it’s real.

I can go on and on about it, however, I don’t intend to make this post a book review on it. But like I said, it’s a damn good book and so is The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of The Damned–the other two following this one.

Anyway, back in the 1990s a movie of Interview With the Vampire was made. Brad Pitt played Louis, which I thought he did a wonderful job at. But when I heard Tom Cruise was playing Lestat, I was not happy.

I have to admit, though, Tom Cruise did a wonderful job playing the part. To be honest, I’m not a fan of his work, but I think this was his best role ever.

Just so you can get a taste of what I’m talking about, here are clips from the movie. It captures the darkness of the story perfectly. Oh, and in the book, Lestat turns a six-year-old orphan into a vampire, which wasn’t a good thing to do. You’ll have to read the book to discover why he did such a selfish thing.

I have to say, since I grew up reading this book and the rest of Anne Rice's vampire chronicles, and I write in this genre, this is my favorite story.

I’ve been tagged by an author friend of mine, which means I need to answer the following questions about my YA paranormal book, Beyond the Eyes.

1.) What is the working title of your book?

I have three books in a YA paranormal series. The first book, Beyond the Eyes is available now. The second book, Dark Spirits will be out at the beginning of next year, and right now I’m halfway done with the rough draft to the third book, The Devil’s Third.

2.) Where did the idea come from for your book Beyond the Eyes?

The idea came to me in many ways: the movie The Exorcist, my own personal experiences, conversations I’ve had with my husband, and my imagination.

3.) What genre does your book fall under?

It falls under the young adult paranormal genre. However, adults who are into this type of story would enjoy it as well.

4.) Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

I would choose unknown actors so they’re not already typecast from previous shows or movies they’ve done.

5.) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Paige knows evil exists in this world, but she never imagined it would want something from her.

6.) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I self-published this book and will continue to do so with the next two in this series. I did have some agents interested in this book, but for personal reasons I decided to self-publish. I do respect agents though, and if one of my dream agents was to approach me on representing this series, I would seriously consider it.

7.) How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Three months.

8.) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

To be honest, I really don’t know. Let’s see . . . The romance would be compared to Twilight. However, my main character Paige is not like Bella in the sense she’s not meek, clumsy or self-depreciating. Paige does cry and is emotional in the first half of this book, but it’s because she’s finally dealing with the feelings she’s been harboring since her father died when she was four. She has to in order to step into the next phase of her life and become a stronger person for what’s ahead of her. Nathan (Paige’s love interest) isn’t controlling like Edward.

The paranormal world in this book would be compared to . . . Okay, check this out . . . If Evermore, The House of Night series, and The Witching Hour, were able to spin their magic and world together, my Beyond the Eyes series would be the result of it, with my own twist to it of course.

The friendship in this series is nothing like I’ve read before. Paige’s relationship with Carrie, Tree, and Brayden is very deep and meaningful.
　
9.) Who or what inspired you to write this book?

My inspiration came from my passion for writing, my deep interest in the paranormal, and my experiences and knowledge from growing up in a family who have dealt with the unknown. My parents were paranormal investigators. They investigated UFOs, Bigfoot, and hauntings. And although, my parents divorced and stopped their investigations, the paranormal world had always been a constant in our household, and we still dealt with spiritual encounters.

10.) What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

The paranormal world I created with the dark spirits brings something new to the table in this genre. Also, I take the reader deeper into the rabbit hole in the next two books. I think readers who are into the unknown and continue to read this series, will appreciate this fresh new idea. At least, I’m hoping so.

I started working on edits with my editor, and I forgot what a pain in the butt edits and rewrites can be. It’s also time consuming. But on a good note, it’s so worth it in the long run.

My editor is awesome by the way. He line edits and comments when he feels it’s necessary to do so. I’m also happy to say so far (we’re on chapter 10 right now) he really likes this second book (Dark Spirits) to my YA paranormal series. My goal is to make each book better than the first one and it looks like I’m accomplishing it.

Yay!

My main character Paige had to deal with her emotional baggage in my first book (Beyond the Eyes) in order to move on to her "new" life. So in Dark Spirits, she grows into a stronger person. She also starts having visions and discovers abilities she had all along, but were dormant until now. There’s a reason why and the reader will find out. Also, the dark spirits play a much bigger role in this book and it’s a lot creepier and darker than BTE. There are so many cool things about this story I’d love to talk about, but my lips are sealed. I do need to start writing a blurb, and I’ll post it here when it’s done. I’m also working with my cover artist, so I’ll do a cover reveal as well.

Anyway, when I’m not at my day job or doing the mundane tasks life requires of me (cleaning, balancing the check book, paying bills, dishes, cooking, sleeping, etc.) I’m here in my writing cave. I do though, manage to read because it’s just as important as writing.

It is.

Seriously.

In fact, since I’m done with The Evolution of Mara Dyer, I need to start reading the next book on my list which is Vampire Academy. I’m really not in the mood to read that type of book, but I’m going to anyway. But before I do, I need to get back to those edits. I’m anxious to see what my editor thinks of this next chapter because there’s a hilarious scene in it that involves a long, blue, vibrating thing and a basset hound who thinks it’s a chew toy.
