Blog Tour! Mind by Audrey Carlan #Erotic Contemporary Romance

Title: Mind, Trinity Trilogy, Book 2
Author: Audrey Carlan
Genre: Erotic Contemporary Romance
Tour Host: DRC Promotions

Synopsis

I’m a magnet for evil and controlling men. Chase, my big business tycoon and love of my life, thinks he can protect me…he can’t.
No one can.
It became clear far too late how serious my stalker was, that his threats weren’t idle. He proved more than once that he would do what it takes, that there were no stakes too high to his sick and twisted games and delusions of worship.
We should have been better prepared. The roses, images, lingerie soaked in his seed, even his calling card written in blood didn’t penetrate. I had faith that my love could make it go away, that eventually he’d be caught.
I was wrong.
***
In the second highly anticipated erotic suspense novel in the Trinity Trilogy, MIND digs deep into the heart and psyche of Gillian and her stalker through dueling POVs.
While Chase and Gillian plan their wedding, follow them and the entire gang as the stalker acts out his revenge and plots his attack on Gillian, Chase, and their friends.
This book can be considered dark, erotic, and thrilling. As in Body (Trinity Trilogy Book 1) the issue of domestic violence plays heavily in the storyline, and Gillian experiences many disturbing flashbacks of the past, alongside tragedy the stalker brings to the present. There is also a lot of love, devotion, and friendship.
Warning: This book is designed for audiences 18+ due to language, graphic sexual content, and themes that some may find disturbing. MIND is book 2 of a three-part trilogy. Body (Trinity Trilogy - Book 1) must be read prior to reading MIND.

Review

I was hooked on this trilogy by about page 4 of Body. This second installment is amazing! I love where the story is going and I cannot wait to see how it ends. This book is a bit darker than the first one, and we get to crawl into the mind of Gillian’s stalker and see how he ticks. I could not put the book down, and in fact, I have read it more than once it is that good.

Now that Chase and Gillian are planning the wedding, things are moving quickly. She is going to move into the penthouse, and Maria is going to move into a condo. Security is tight around Gillian. The press is ripping into her, so the besos are rallying around her. Chase gets his way and is moving the wedding from a year to only six weeks away. The stalker has her apartment wired and hears this, which kicks his plans into high gear. But they do not know that the bad guy is going to take all of her friends away from her so that Gillian will only have him to turn to. And the starker has no problems with other people getting caught in the crossfire.

When one of the group is targeted and gets hurt by a bomb, Gillian’s world gets turned on its head. Someone of their group has a surprising announcement, and with the wedding on hold, Gillian’s demons come back. Between the flashbacks and the nightmares, she is a mess. The whole group is taken through hell and back with the stalker working hard at eliminating each of them. And he might just succeed. But Gillian and Chase might be focusing on the wrong person. When their target tears into their world and is thwarted, they might have let their guard down too much, and the happiest day of Gillian’s life might not be so.

I loved this book and I cannot wait for the next one. The cliffhanger nearly had me chucking my kindle across the room. I knew it would happen, but it still had me catching my breath. This is a great trilogy, and if you love sexy men, feisty women, and a huge dose of suspense, grab this book. It is full of surprises and twists and turns.

Why is Paige so wimpy?

The other day I received a message from a reader who is reading Beyond the Eyes. Here’s what she said:

I’m halfway through your book. I am loving it. I am in love with Nathan. I do have a question, though. Why is Paige so wimpy? She cries way too much. Is there a particular reason or is that just her personality?

I wanna tell you guys that I absolutely love it when my readers reach out to me, especially when they have a question about a character.

The reader is right. Paige does cry a lot, but there is a reason for it and here’s what I told the reader:

Paige is 17 and teenagers are emotional. But the main reason why she's like that is because ever since she was 4 and had the premonition before her father died, she felt like he didn't love her. In her mind, if he did, he would have stayed and not chose to die. She also thinks her mom doesn't love her, because her mom basically avoids her. Then, there's Brayden, who Paige loves. He left her and went to California with his mom. So she has these unresolved feelings of abandonment and on top of it all, she thinks she's a freak, because she gets premonitions from a ghostly voice. And even though she has awesome friends, she's very lonely and sad. That's why she cries a lot in this first book. But Nathan helps her through it and eventually Paige overcomes those feelings she's been harboring since her father died.

I wrote her character that way, because so many people have those same issues, and also to show her growth throughout the trilogy. In the next book, Dark Spirits, Paige is a much stronger person and becomes a kick ass fighter against malevolent beings, and in the third book, her character grows even more. So to answer your question: being wimpy is not her personality. She just has unresolved issues she needs to face. I mean, how can she deal with demons, when she hasn't dealt with her own? Does that make sense?

Thanks for asking me about Paige. Sometimes I wonder if I should rewrite parts of the book to make her less of a crybaby, but then I'm concerned with upsetting my fans. Plus, it would mess with the whole character growth thing. Ya know what I mean?

I know there are readers and future readers of Beyond the Eyes who have and will hate Paige because she’s so weak in a good portion of this book, and they might go as so far as to trash it. It has happened btw. Or they’ll understand why she’s that way at the beginning of her paranormal journey and will appreciate how much her character grows throughout the trilogy. Honestly, most people who have read Beyond the Eyes loves or likes it. However, there are a handful who don’t because of Paige. It is what it is, and it's a cool story.

Anyway, Beyond the Eyes is #FREE at the following links below. I would love for you to read and review it. Like I said, most readers either loves or likes it. The story is an unusual paranormal tale. One of the loglines I use is: Vampires and werewolves are cool, but what about a new mythology? Another one I use for Dark Spirits (book #2) is: Forget about zombies. What about dark spirits dwelling inside soulless humans?

Thanks, :)

Character Analysis

Have you ever read an analysis about a character from one of your favorite books?

I haven’t.

I thought it would be interesting and fun to analyze Paige who is the main character in my Beyond the Eyes trilogy. I might even continue it with more characters in the next post. I need to warn you though, there might be spoilers in this. If you haven’t read the books in the trilogy, you've been warned.

In Beyond the Eyes Paige is seventeen-years-old. She’s a heartsick, stubborn teen, who cries a fair bit and makes stupid ass mistakes.

Why?

Why is she like this?

Also, in the first book, her best friend Brayden whom she used to date, comes to town. He proclaims his undying love for her. When she tells him she’s in love with Nathan and there’s a connection between them, Brayden—wanting to remind Paige of her feelings for him—forces himself on her (he fondles her breast and tries to kiss her). He violates her, but yet Paige forgives and still loves him.

WTF?

Why in the hell would she?

Let’s put ourselves in her shoes and see if we can figure it out . . .

She’s a teenager.

Most teenagers think they’re impervious to danger, they’re moody, make dumbass mistakes, and they’re emotional.

It makes sense, right?

But there’s more.

Paige has been receiving premonitions from a ghostly voice since the age of four. Her first one was right before her father died. It basically told her he was going to leave her and it would be his choice. His death not only shattered her world, but it also created some unhealthy feelings inside her core being: loneliness, abandonment, sadness, etc. It also doesn’t help that her mother avoids Paige as much as she can.

Paige’s mom loves her, but she can’t be around Paige for long periods of time. She tells Paige why later on in the first book. But regardless, Paige’s mom’s behavior adds to her insecurity and the constant “what’s wrong with me?” internal question. Paige not only feels like her father bailed on her but her mother as well.

Ahhh, so maybe those are the reason why she’s the way she is in Beyond the Eyes.

But what about the stubbornness?

Paige is hardheaded, that’s for sure.

BTW, my characters came to me out of nowhere, so I’m just as perplexed on some of the things they do and how they sometimes act.

So stubbornness . . .

I think Paige is stubborn because basically she’s been on her own for two years. Her mother is a traveling nurse and leaves Paige alone. Paige had to grow up fast, and she’s an only child. I’m guessing that’s why she’s hardheaded.

But why in hell would she forgive Brayden and still harbor feelings for him?

Brayden tends to be an ass, but from what Paige has told us, he used to not be this way. They’ve known each other since they were toddlers. It was rare a day went by that they didn’t see one another. Brayden helped Paige through some tough times. They also dated for about two years, until he moved to California, which crushed them both. Paige still sees the old Brayden inside his new pain-in-the-ass-relentless behavior. She also cannot forget how he’s always been there for her.

The love she has for him is rooted in those things.

Sometimes old feelings for Brayden crops up, which is disconcerting. However, she’s in love with Nathan, not Brayden. Paige has stated this numerous times throughout the trilogy. It’s like she has to reaffirm it to herself. I do believe though, she’s not in love with Brayden. I think her old feelings for him and all the things he’s done for her in the past, gets her confuse on how she feels about him. But as things progress throughout the trilogy, Paige grow as a character. Thanks to Nathan’s help, she deals with her problems, makes peace with it, doesn’t trust Brayden like she used to and tells him she doesn’t like the person he is now.

Rock on, Paige!

You go girl!

So in the end she becomes a strong kickass fighter against evil.

Woot!

I think we got her figured out, what do you think?
