Happy 2019!

. . . Yeah, I’m six days late. 😂

I’ve been crazy busy, hustling to get the new website I built live.

Can you believe I built a frickin’ website all by my non-techy-I-don’t-understand-this-shit self?

-So, this is proof that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

Exploring Rabbit Holes is a work in progress. I have more ideas for the site that I’ll get to as time permits. The same with our Etsy store (DARETOLIVESHOP). I built it as another creative outlet for us. We do have dare to live t-shirts to go with our YouTube Dare To Live brand, which promotes a life of self-discovery and inspiration. Today we created a new YouTube video on the benefits of walking. We take you on one of the routes we walk and we talk about it. The filming is a bit bumpy because of the snow and ice on the road. We plan on getting a GoPro in the near future, which is an action camera you hook onto your car or helmet.

I’m an author and an explorer who is into health and wellness, self-discovery, and travel, which I will be writing about.

It makes perfect sense.

-So, now the important announcement.

. . . I’ve been struggling with a decision to make. The decision is should I shut down this blog and focus totally on Exploring Rabbit Holes or try and keep up with both?

To be honest, this blog (Wandering Thoughts of a Writer) has a special place in my heart because I created it years ago when I first wrote Beyond the Eyes.

I was going to shut it down, but today I came to the decision to keep it for my books, writing, and possibly to share with you videos we create.

What does this mean?

It means I won’t be posting every week to this blog.

On the book front, I’m in the process of rereading/rewriting/editing Legends of Deceit book #2. After that it’ll be sent to my editor. I’ll keep you up to date on it here.

Over the weekend Kevin and I were finally able to start renovating our RV (Aesop).

Yay!

The following is what we discovered and what we'd done so far.

A Small Leak.

We know there are no leaks in our RV . . . so we thought.

There was one hidden beneath the window in the living room area.

We already knew there was an old leak there because of the small bubbles in the wall, so Kevin took the front part of it off.

It revealed old water damage from a leaky window.

The prior owners fixed it, but what we didn’t know until yesterday was the seal between the outer body panels wasn’t sealed properly, so water was still able to dribble between the wall.

. . . Well, that sucks.

As you can see, Kevin fixed that problem. No big deal, but now we have to figure out what to do with that part of the wall inside the RV, since we need to fix it and then cover it back up.

Any ideas?

It's a cosmetic issue.

The whole wall needs to look the same.

I'm open to suggestions.

A Rotting Step

On Saturday, Kevin discovered beneath the bottom step the metal part was rotting.

Instead of fixing it, the previous owners covered it up with a block of wood and nailed the shit out of it.

It was a pain in the ass to pry out . . . er, hack off.

But Kevin prevailed.

I had no doubt.

He built a new step and will fix the rest of it this week.

He did a wonderful job.

Nasty Carpet Be Gone

Also, on Saturday, we started ripping the carpet out.

Btw, I filmed parts of it.

Once our Youtube Channel goes live, parts of this footage will be integrated into one of our shows.

Yesterday we finished tearing out 95% of the carpet.

Woot!

Good news.

The floor is in great shape.

Double Woot!

We’re going to put fake wooden floors in. I forgot what they’re called, but they look real and clean up well.

We still need to pull the carpet out of the bathroom, but first we have to take the toilet out. We’re going to get a composting toilet.

There’s also strips of carpet along the walls that has to be cut out. I tried cutting it with a box cutter and had no luck. I don’t know if it’s because my hand strength is poor or I’m just not doing it right.

It’s Time For Solar Panels

We’re taking all of next week off to install four solar panels on top of the roof of our RV.

. . . But it’s supposed to be in the 90s that whole week, plus humidity.

We don’t do well in those conditions.

So we’ll have to take a lot of breaks and literally chill out in our house.

No worries.

We’ll adapt, improvise, and overcome.

So it’s happening.

Like I had said before: If you don’t have a plan, you’ll be part of someone else’s plan.

We have a plan and with determination, preparation, and hard work, we’ll bring it into fruition and live life the way we want to.

Last weekend was the first nice day we’ve had in six months. The snow was just about gone from our yard, the sun was shining, and the temp was perfect. With excitement in our hearts to finally be able to work on Aesop (RV) and start filming for our future YouTube channel, we set out to accomplish what we’d been longing to do during the six months of grueling winter.

But first a little backstory.

Last August when we decided to get an RV (I’ll tell ya more about that story another time), and eventually explore the U.S. as digital nomads, we went hunting for one on the internet. Kevin found a class A motorhome and showed it to me. I wasn’t too sure about it. In fact, I wanted to keep looking. I’m an indecisive person to the point of sometimes being a pain in the ass. So I kept searching and came across one and showed Kevin. Well, it was the same one he showed me earlier which was weird.

I decided to go run some errands. While I was out I had this gut feeling to go to the convenience store and pick up an Auto Trader. I did, thinking there might be motorhomes in there for sale. When I got home, I thumbed through it and found a class A. I showed Kevin, and we discovered it was the same one he showed me earlier

The same class A motorhome kept showing up, so Kevin went online and learned that it was now up for auction. He placed a bid. The amount he entered was too low. He placed another bid, and it stuck. He ended up winning so we drove to Detroit Lakes, MN and picked it up. To our delight, the RV was in great shape, except we did have to replace a solenoid and put a new battery in it before trekking back home. Kevin said driving it was a dream.

My friend Ronnie offered for us to park our RV in his huge shop for the winter. It was a generous and kind offer. Knowing that North Dakota’s winters could be brutal, we were going to take him up on his offer.

Were.

One day Kevin went to go start our RV so we could take it to Ronnie’s shop, and the ignition switch didn’t work. At all. When Kevin turned the key, it went all the way around.

What the hell?

The weather was already getting chilly and nipping at us, so instead of fixing the ignition switch, Kevin decided to leave our RV in our backyard. Besides, we loved looking out our kitchen window and seeing our motorhome. It was an affirmation to us that we had a plan instead of being part of someone else's plan and this was what we were working our butts off to accomplish—a nomadic lifestyle, to live instead of just exist.

Fast forward to February.

Ronnie’s shop burned down. If our RV was in there, it would have been ashes or close to it.

He lost everything.

No one was hurt, though. What he lost was just stuff. He got lucky.

Now rewind back to the beginning of this post when last Saturday we were pumped up to work on our RV and get it started. Our mechanic friend Curt came over to help Kevin. We had just come back from Carquest, where Kevin bought two batteries—even though the one in the RV was the one we bought in Minnesota—and hooked them up. We told Curt we had to go back to Carquest, but we wouldn’t be too long.

When we came back home this is what happened:

Curt: “She’s running.”

Kevin and I: “What?”

Curt: “She’s running.”

Kevin: “How can she be running? The ignition switch wasn’t working. I tried it several times and the key went all the way around.”

Curt: “I don’t know, man, but she’s running.”

Our jaws dropped.

No kidding.

Kevin and I: “Turn it on! Turn it on! Turn it on!”

He turned it on, and the sound was music to our ears. She was running beautifully, and we couldn’t help but laugh and smile because the realization had hit us at the same time that if she would have run back in October when we were going to store her in Ronnie’s shop for the winter, she would have burned down.

Wow.

Obviously, this is the RV we’re supposed to have because #1 at the beginning when we decided to be digital nomads, she kept showing up. #2 she was meant not to burn down.

Was this the hand of Fate?

I don’t know, but it sure seems like it.

Since we've been together, Kevin and I have always followed signs, and they've never failed us. I could write more blog posts on the subject, but this one will suffice for now. If everything flows together, it’s meant to be. Don’t force anything, just go with it. So we’re surfing this wave to see where it takes us.

Right now, Aesop is at Kevin’s work, waiting to get serviced and gone through by mechanics. Like I said early, I started filming clips of the beginning of our awesome journey, however, I wish I could have captured our jaws dropping when Curt told us our RV was running.

Oh, well.

No biggie.

I’m going to go with the flow and see where Fate takes us.

Happy Friday!

I found out today we’re supposed to get clobbered with more snow.

Are you frickin’ kidding me?

A couple of weeks ago we got I think it was 14 inches of snow, and it’s finally melting.

But oh, no. Mr. Winter here isn’t done with us yet.

We’re supposed to get dumped on today, Sunday, and Monday.

Oh, and get this . . .

The weather peeps are predicting snow at the beginning of April as well.

Really?

I think Spring is sleeping in.

Someone needs to wake her up.

I wanted to start working on Aesop A.K.A. RV this weekend, but I guess not.

I also wanted to start filming.

But, that’s okay. I’ll be able to do those things soon enough.

So this weekend I’ll be learning how to use our new camera, hopefully—I don’t want to jinx myself—finish the second book to Legends of Deceit series, or get through the current scene I’m kinda stuck in, work on future plans, go on date night, among other things.
