Minimalist Art Steampunk Style

As you guys know, Kevin (hubby) and I are moving towards living a minimalist lifestyle, and we’re loving it.

Did you know, Kevin is an artist?

I don’t remember if I’ve told you that or not.

. . . Well, he is, and the other day he created some cool ass steampunk/futuristic designs with only two things.

Can you guess what they were?

It was totally organic/natural . . .

. . . He created the following designs with only a flippin’ ink pen and pad of paper.

Here’s what they look like on paper.

Wouldn’t they look good on a T-shirt and sweatshirt hoodie?

Hell ya, they would!

The steampunk gangsta car would look sweet on a sweatshirt hoodie.

-So, I decided to take his hand drawn designs another step forward and did just that.

They are now in our Etsy store (DARETOLIVESHOP), because those designs are too cool not to share them with the world and give the
people who appreciate organic/hand drawn art, the opportunity to wear it.

There will be more hand drawn by pen designs by Kevin in the future, and I’m excited to find out what he comes up with next. I’m trying to talk him into creating a steampunk-type cat that is writing for a T-shirt design, but being an author, I understand you can’t force creativity, so if he’s feeling inspired to draw it, he will, if not, something else kickass will come into fruition.

-Anyway, this is another step towards the life we’re creating.

Baby steps, remember?

Our Etsy store is a side hustle that I haven’t had time to focus on to grow because I’ve been working on other projects that’ll eventually come into play with the life we’re creating.

This shit takes time, and sometimes it seems like it’s taking forever and nothing is working. That’s where patience comes in and me giving myself a pep talk on not to give up, keep going.

Eventually, everything will come together and all our hard work will pay off.

We recently did an overview on everything we’ve done this year. We’re proud of ourselves for all that we’ve accomplished, and we’re happy where we’re at and the path we’re on.

Here’s a little reminder.

RV RENOVATION: Another Goal Accomplished

I have a confession.

We’re curtain challenged and always have been.

In fact, in our spare bedroom we have a blanket over one window and a faded towel over the other one.

It’s so ghetto, but it is what it is. It wasn’t like we haven’t tried to find curtains to go on those windows.

. . . But, we failed to find the right ones and gave up on it because to be honest, it wasn’t that important to us to continue hunting for the right curtains. Besides, we’re the only ones who goes into that room—us and Church that is.

-So, last month I bought two of these boho patchwork curtains, and I love them.

However, as you can see, they were way too big for our RV windows.

Epic fail?

Not quite.

Kevin took one and bunched it up above our kitchen window, and it worked!

Don’t they look adorable?

Now, what the hell do we do with the other one?

Thankfully, I have a creative husband who can think outside the box and has an imagination.

I’ll show you what he did with it in a minute.

. . . Anyway, we finished painting the inside of our RV yesterday.

Since we’re both visual and creative people, we started decorating the inside to fuel our excitement on what our house on wheels is going to look like after we’re done renovating it.

Here's what the inside looked like right after we were done painting and before we did a little decorating.

Here's a picture of what Kevin did with the other curtain.
Here's another picture to give you an idea of what our house on wheels is going to look like once we're done renovating the inside.

We still need to install the wood flooring, and we can’t wait to see what it’s going to look like after it’s done.

-So, yesterday, we accomplished another goal. The painting is finally done, and it looks good, even though painting isn’t our favorite thing to do.

So far, this journey has taught us patience, endurance, knowledge, and wisdom.

We’re being molded and rewarded in ways we never considered or thought about.

A whole new world has opened up to us in ways a year ago we couldn’t even fathom.

It goes deeper than becoming a minimalist, renovating our RV, and eventually traveling the US full-time, living a nomadic lifestyle as a digital nomad.

Maybe one day I’ll write a post about it, but for now I’ll leave you with this as a hint of what I’m talking about.

RV Renovation: A Huge Bleeping Mess

On step forward, two steps back.

Yesterday wasn’t a good RV renovation day for us.

At first it started out great.

We hired someone to help Kevin with some things on the RV that needed to be done.

Wiring up everything went great.

-Well, Kevin built this box to put our batteries in and just as an added safety precaution, he wanted to screw it to the bottom of the RV compartment it would be housed in. The reason being, if he had to suddenly break or if we ended up in an accident, the box wouldn’t slide.

Good idea, right?

Kevin and the guy (I’ll call him Sam), got busy drilling the holes to the bottom of the wooden box he made, while it was in the RV basement compartment, with the batteries in it.

Kevin went inside to cool off because it was horribly hot and humid out, not to mention the mosquitoes were everywhere.

-So, imagine being miserably hot, your clothes were sticking to you, your energy was quickly getting depleted, AND you were constantly getting bit by mosquitoes.

Yeah, note to self: don’t work on the RV when it’s hot and humid out.

Kevin went back outside and Sam said, “I accidentally drilled a hole into one of the batteries, and I have battery acid all over my pants.”

Kevin thought he was kidding because Sam liked to joke a lot.

It wasn’t a joke.

Seriously.

There was battery acid everywhere!

All the hard work of wiring everything up had to be undone.

They had to take all of the batteries out of the basement compartment and the wooden box Kevin made for it.

Sam was okay, but he felt bad and wouldn’t let us pay him for his labor because the battery he drilled a hole into was going to cost us $130.00 to get a new one.

*sigh*

What a bleeping mess!!!

We all make mistakes, but this RV renovation is kicking our ass.

-But, we’re not giving up.

We realize it’s actually the heat and humidity that’s kicking our ass, not the RV itself.

Plan B:

  • ·       Breathe.
  • ·       Don’t be in a hurry.
  • ·       Don’t work on the RV when it’s miserably hot and humid outside.
  • ·       Focus on one project at a time.
  • ·       Remember, everything is how it should be.
  • ·       Go with the flow.

Today is Sunday. On Sundays we prepare food for the week, do laundry, I set my personal goals, work on my writing, and future plans.

It’s time to regroup and reenergize for the coming week.

Life comes with struggles and frustrations.

That’s how we grow.

I told Kevin what happened was now a memory we could revisit: “Remember, back in the summer of 2018, when Sam accidentally drilled a hole into one of our batteries, and you had to undo all of the work you'd done. Omg, that fucking sucked! But we got through it.” We also have this memory to share with other people, like what I’m doing now with you guys.

-So, everything is how it should be.

It’s all good.

How I Set My Goals For The Week

I know.

It’s Monday.

Again.

But do you know what that means? It means a new start to a new week. It’s all a matter of perspective. You can look at Monday as a start to another hell week or an opportunity to set goals you want to accomplish for the week.

It’s all a matter of perspective.

At the end of 2017, I knew I needed to accomplish a lot this year in order to create the life I want to live. I needed something to help me organize my weekly goals, so I bought this day planner. It has helped me out in more ways than one.

I knew I needed to accomplish a lot this year in order to create the life I want to live.

It’s a great weekly and monthly planner. Every Sunday I take it out and write down my weekly goals and notes. There are also sections for each day so I’ll write what I want to accomplish on Monday such as posting on social media, go through emails, write a blog post, etc. On Monday night I’ll read through my list and check off the things I've accomplished that day, and then I’ll move onto Tuesday and write down my goals for Tuesday.

Meals-Exercise-Inspiration-Notes-Memories-Ideas-Gratitude

These are included in each weekly plan which is great because it helps me remember what I want to do that week, like try a new recipe or if I see something creative I want to do, I'll write it down under ideas. I also write under notes the things I’ll want to check on next year, like what the weather was like during that month.

Btw, I’m not an affiliate for this day planner. Just in case you’re wondering.

There’s also a vision board for each month and a week 1-4 section to break down your monthly goals into tangible tasks. Honestly, I’m good at filling in the first week, but then I forget about it. I do find myself at times behind in entering my daily goals because life gets in the way, but I’ll regroup and get back at it. I can proudly say, though, since I started this day planner, I’ve accomplished a lot.

Speaking of accomplishing a lot, I got a lot done this weekend thanks to planning and following through. We went to the landfill and emptied our trailer that was full of leaves, branches, etc. We finished renovating our enclosed porch. Finally! I discovered I’m not good at taping. Kevin told me it was practice for when we remodel our RV. We also stained the logs on our house and was thrilled with how they turned out.

I got a lot accomplished, thanks to planning and following through.

So yesterday evening I planned out my week in my trusty day planner. Instead of groaning about another Monday, I’m looking forward to accomplishing my goals because it means I’m one day closer to living the life I want.

It’s Monday. Do You Know What That Means?

I think most people aren’t fond of Mondays, me included. The weekends seem to fly by and the next thing you know it’s Monday.

Really?

So I thought to myself, instead of dreading it every week, turn it into a positive.

It’s a matter of perspective, right?

We all know Mondays can totally suck, but so can the other days.

What if everything goes wrong?

You slept like crap last night.

You start to fall into a nice comfortable sleep, and then the damn alarm goes off.

You hit the snooze button several times, then finally with a loud groan and possible colorful words, you drag yourself out of bed.

It’s Monday.

*SIGH*

Where did the weekend go?

Can we have a do-over?

I wasn’t ready yet.

You go into the bathroom to brush your teeth and drop your toothbrush on the floor.

You squeeze the tube of toothpaste and it shoots out all over the frickin’ counter.

What the hell?

And this is how your Monday begins.

What a way to start the week, right?

BUT!

You have a choice.

You do.

You can roll with it, laugh at each FUBAR situation, and tell yourself you will not allow these mishaps ruin your day and week.

Honestly, absurdities will happen.

Or you can allow it to get the best of you and have a shitty day and week.

It’s your choice.

I choose to see Monday as the beginning of a new week where the goals I set for myself for that week can be accomplished. Last week I wasn’t able to accomplish all of the goals I had set for that week.

No worries.

I’ll move them to this week.

Anyway, it’s Sunday night as I write this.

In an hour I go to bed.

I was thinking about Monday and decided to write this post and share with you the mindset I recently adopted regarding the dreaded Monday.
