Release Blitz! The Trouble With Paper Planes by #Author Amanda Dick

Title: The Trouble With Paper Planes

Author: Amanda Dick

Genre: Contemporary Romance

I’ve always believed in what I can see, what I can hear and what I can touch. Surfing was my religion and destiny was just a fairy-tale. But one summer, over ten days during the hottest February on record, all that changed. I found hope – the kind of hope that sustains you, even when you don’t want to be sustained.

The night Emily disappeared, I was branded. She became the girl on the ‘missing’ posters, and I became the one trying to keep everyone from falling apart. I thought that somehow it would keep me from being devoured by the emptiness inside me. Five years later, I was beginning to appreciate how deluded I really was.

Then Maia showed up. New in town, with a past as mysterious as she was, she reminded me so much of Emily that I couldn’t stand to be anywhere near her. What I didn’t realise was that there were forces at play that neither of us could possibly understand.

It takes a determined soul to alter destiny. There is a loophole, a back door, and the events that unfolded during those ten days showed me how that loophole can change everything.

Do you believe in fate? If so, let me tell you my story. If not, what happened to me might change your mind.

Amanda Dick is a night-owl, coffee addict, movie buff and music lover. She loves to do DIY (if it's not bolted down, she'll probably paint it, re-cover it or otherwise decorate it) and has tried almost every craft known to man/womankind. She has two sewing machines and an over-locker she can't remember how to thread. She crochets (but can't follow a pattern), knits (badly) and refrains from both as a public service.

She believes in love at first sight, in women's intuition and in following your heart. She is rather partial to dark chocolate and believes in the power of a good vanilla latte.

What lights her fire is writing stories about real people in trying situations. Her passion is finding characters who are forced to test their boundaries. She is insanely curious about how we, as human beings, react when pushed to the edge. Most of all, she enjoys writing about human behaviour - love, loss, joy, grief, friendship and the complexity of relationships in general.

After living in Scotland for five years, she has now settled back home in New Zealand, where she lives with her husband and two children.

Author-Bio
Emily W. Skinner
Emily had a goal when she was 15, she would have a daughter named Marquel and write a novel titled "Marquel." She accomplished both and more.
A member of The International Thriller Writers, Emily was a protege of the late master of the pulps or paperback originals, Harry Whittington. Emily interviewed Whittington during her days as a feature writer for the Clearwater Sun daily newspaper and its weekly division. They became friends and he taught her how to plot and gave her approval of the original outline and sample chapter for "Marquel" shortly before he died in 1989.
After Whittington passed away, Emily challenged herself to write as her mentor did and wrote a chapter a day and finished the novel "Marquel" in 52 days. For more details on the novel's history read:http://www.thefilmmom.blogspot.com/20...
Fast forward, a second daughter, Blair is born and Emily and husband Tom focus on raising their family. Both daughters are now grown and work in Hollywood. So this might be an example of art imitating life or the reverse?
A devoted Catholic, Emily is rekindling her love for writing and has just completed the movie script for "Marquel" and a young adult paranormal appropriately named after her youngest child, "St. Blair: Children of the Night."
When Emily isn't working as a marketing consultant or writing, she enjoys antiquing/thrifting and producing short films. Emily is the proud Executive Producer of Blair Skinner's film "Relative Eternity," a 2012 LA Shorts Film Festival selection, Sunscreen Film Festival selection and Short Film Corner Festival de Cannes selection. Written, directed and edited by Blair Skinner, "Relative Eternity" is on snagfilms.com for your viewing pleasure. It is free to view.

Access A Bonus Scene From Escape From Witchwood Hollow by Jordan Elizabeth & Enter The #Giveaway

HOW FAR INTO THE HOLLOW WILL YOU GO?

I love everything that comes with being published – the book signings, the blog interviews, the swag… I’ve never been so excited about buying a bookmark before. I also love hearing from the readers of ESCAPE FROM WITCHWOOD HOLLOW, and a few people asked me how Leon got the handgun. I would hate to disappoint the fans, so I wrote a bonus scene where Leon meets the weapon. You can access it here: http://www.jordanelizabethmierek.com/novels.html

There’s more than just a bonus scene on the website. Check out contests, book signings, future books, and feel free to drop me a line. Your suggestion might be the next bonus scene! Signed copies of my books are available by request. They make great holiday gifts. Yes, I’m winking at you.

Everyone in Arnn – a small farming town with more legends than residents – knows the story of Witchwood Hollow: if you venture into the whispering forest, the witch will trap your soul among the shadowed trees.

After losing her parents in a horrific terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, fifteen-year-old Honoria and her older brother escape New York City to Arnn. In the lure of that perpetual darkness, Honoria finds hope, when she should be afraid.

Perhaps the witch can reunite her with her lost parents. Awakening the witch, however, brings more than salvation from mourning, for Honoria discovers a past of missing children and broken promises.

To save the citizens of Arnn from becoming the witch’s next victims, she must find the truth behind the woman’s madness.

How deep into Witchwood Hollow does Honoria dare venture?

Jordan Elizabeth, formally Jordan Elizabeth Mierek, is the author of young adult fantasy ESCAPE FROM WITCHWOOD HOLLOW and contributing author for GEARS OF BRASS, both available from Curiosity Quills Press. Her next books, TREASURE DARKLY and BORN OF TREASURE, arrive in 2015. She is represented by Belcastro Agency.

No new bonus scene would be complete with a contest. Win this chilling keychain and ask yourself how deep into the hollow you will go.

Blame Shifting, The Poison Of Humanity

Everyone is guilty of shifting blame on others. I don’t care who you are. I think it’s innate within us.

Why?

I don’t know.

Blame shifting in our society is way out of hand, and it’s disheartening.

A woman spills scolding hot coffee while she’s in the car and burns herself.

Hello! Your dumbass knows it’s hot.

What does she do?

She sues McDonalds and wins a million dollars.

Instead of taking the blame for her own mistake, she shifts it onto McDonalds.

A thief is in the process of robbing a house during the night. He slips and falls and breaks his leg.

What does he do?

He sues the family he was about to rob and wins!

Un-believe-able.

I can go on and on, stating case after case, but let’s move forward before we both get annoyed by the stupidity of it all.

I normally don’t do these types of posts; however, after five months of dealing with blame shifters I can’t keep quiet any longer.

*WARNING! I’m going to vent for a minute*

I manage a propane company. This winter has been insane. It’s been the coldest winter we’ve had in a long ass time. We had a shortage of propane in the fall, then the price of it went through the roof. I’m talking $5.00 a gallon. So a hundred gallons cost five hundred frickin’ dollars.

Wowsers!

Fortunately the owner of where I work was smart enough to squirrel away some propane beforehand. We were able to keep the price per gallon at $3.89, whereas our competitors were way higher. But still, we had to ration it out and people were not happy. To make a long story short, there were customers who blamed the owners for purposely hiking up the price so they can live the high life.

Not true.

I ran into one of these numnuts on my day off, and I lit his ass up. Of course, I did it in a diplomatic way. I didn’t rip his head off or anything, but I told him the truth . . . No, my boss is not purposefully jacking up the price so he can make a huge profit and live a luxurious life. When he goes to the pipeline, he has to pay the astronomical price plus fees on top of that.

Then there were other customers who still owed on their accounts, never made an attempt to pay it and demanded to have their propane tanks filled.

What?

If they would have even made an effort to pay, even if they could only afford like $50.00 a month, I would have worked with them.

Now we move onto the people who never even prepared for the heating season and shifts the blame on us for their own problems. They even resort to trying to guilt us into giving them propane.

WTF?

Okay, venting over. J

The point is, this world would be a better place if everyone took responsibility for their actions and life. But everyday I’m seeing more and more people blaming others for their problems.

Will this ever end?

How do we stop this nonsense?

You know, I could totally blame my mom for not being a proper mother and how far behind in life I am in some things because of it. I’m not going to though, because you know what? I decided to take responsibility for my life, and I’m doing far better than she was when she was my age.

I’m proud of myself.

I did it.

On my own.

Yeah, I think my writing career would be booming right now if she would have done a lot of things differently, but oh well. I’m not going to cry about. I’ll just keep pursuing my goals.

Anyway, I’m not tooting my own horn. I just brought up my own situation as an example of what I’m saying.

I’m concerned where as a human race we’re headed.

I’m worried about a lot of stuff that's going on in our world, but I think if we took responsibility for our own lives things would start to get better.

Maybe I’m too much of an optimist.

I still have hope.

I’ve seen people pull together during a catastrophe.

When a tornado barreled through my town a few years ago, it was frightening. It did a lot of damage, but we all pulled together and not one person I know of blamed or tried to sue anyone for their misfortune.

So, yeah, I still have hope for us all.

Deprived.

We discovered a few weeks ago Kevin is allergic to sulfites. It does horrible things to his body: racing heart, fluid in the lungs, itchiness, hives, fatigue. It’s been going on for years, but we didn’t know what was wrong with him. For a long while we thought he had a gluten allergy. He stopped eating bread, and we basically lived off of meat and veggies for years.

Years!

But when we moved to North Dakota, he started eating whatever he wanted to, thinking it wasn’t a gluten allergy after all, but the stressful life we were living. So believe me, I was happy with that decision because it raised our food choices, and cooking a meal wasn’t so restrictive. However, he wasn’t functioning 100% and at the end of last year it all caught up with him.

To make a long story short, he cut out all sulfites from his diet, is taking a vitamin B supplement, and feels a hell of a lot better. He has no more of those spells and a lot more energy, which is wonderful, except . . .

(You knew there was an except in there, right?)

We now have to cut A LOT of foods, spices, and sauces out of our diet until he figures out what his body can tolerate.

*Big sigh*

So everything we’ve been cooking for the last three weeks is bland. He can’t have any onions, garlic powder or seasoning packets.

Nothing.

He can’t even eat pork because pork supposedly has sulfites in it.

Yup. That’s right.

No bacon.

*Sheds a tear*

But I’m not done.

The list goes on . . .

No eggs, no bagged potatoes. Only fresh potatoes.

No canned tomatoes. Only fresh tomatoes. So if we want tomato sauce, we have to make it ourselves, from the tomatoes out of our garden, which won’t be until later this summer.

No white flour because it’s bleached and full of preservatives (sulfites), which means no pizza, no homemade pot pies, no pies, no buttermilk biscuits or pancakes.

*Starts to bawl*

I’ve been supporting Kevin’s "new way of eating" by cooking and eating sulfite free food. And let me tell ya, my endurance to adhere to this sick-joke-of-a-diet is wavering.

Last week, I was totally craving onion rings.

Hardcore.

I ignored it for a couple days, but the craving grew into a snarling beast, biting into my thoughts until I couldn’t shut it out.

I completely folded.

Last Thursday after work, I stopped and picked up an order of onion rings at Eats and Treats, a Dairy Queen type joint. With a shit-eating grin, bag of yummy onion rings in hand, I went home, stood at the kitchen counter and wolfed them all down as if I hadn’t eaten in days.

They were sooo good.

After that, I realized I couldn’t stand shoulder to shoulder with Kevin on this Nazi food regimen. I just hope he discovers he can eat more things than he thought. Otherwise, one of the major enjoyments in life (yummy food) is going to be pulled out from under him.

Before this sulfite discovery, we didn’t eat a lot of junk food, and ate as naturally as possible. But at least we could have the things I’ve mentioned above and were able to go out to eat.

That’s another belly punching blow to one of the enjoyments in life.

Going out to eat.

As of right now, Kevin’s sulfite allergy is banning us from going to a restaurant. However, the gavel hasn’t been slammed on this insufferable way of eating.

There is hope.

Once Kevin figures this all out, I’m sure he’ll discover he can eat more things than he thought.

Anyway, I told him, I’d feel bad for eating the foods in front of him, he can’t have. He told me not to worry about it, and he doesn’t expect me to only eat what he eats. So Saturday, I bought corned beef (he can’t have it, but I love it, and it’s on sale right now) and yesterday I made corned beef and cabbage for myself. With the leftovers, I divided them up and froze them. That way I can pull it out of the freezer and have it for dinner when I get a hankering for it. I won’t though, make bacon when he’s home. I think that would be cruel because the smell of bacon alone makes your mouth water.

Well, this post is longer than I intended it to be.

Ooops.

I hope you enjoy your Monday. :)
