The darkness claws at Raine Sims,
bringing her farther in.

one to bring her out of it. The burden of loss weighs heavily on her, reminding
her every day that there are no guarantees in life. Every day is a struggle,
every day she puts on a façade just to get through. She’s already lost her
husband to divorce and now her child in death… It’s all too much to grasp.
But a chance encounter with Sly
Wilkes is all it takes to come completely undone.

Sly Wilkes is always in control,
in every situation, including in the bedroom. He’s mysterious, and Raine has
definitely piqued his interest. However getting to know her isn’t all that

I Have A What In My #Breast?

This year started out . . . different. I’ve been having strange symptoms for a year now and been running a 101 fever, not to mention I’ve been feeling like crap. It started out as my left arm being constantly sore to where I couldn’t lay on it. I went to a physical therapy, because let’s face it; I sit on my ass a lot at my day job and when I’m at home writing and connecting with other people. So I thought my shoulder was jacked up because of the way I was sitting in my chair.

I was right.

The muscles in my shoulder were tight. The P.T. cured it; however, my arm still ached, and I still couldn’t lay on the dang thing, which is annoying because that’s the side I sleep on. Then I started experiencing a warming and tingling sensation on the left side of my chest and breast. It felt like something was growing inside it. The writer in me imagined an alien fetus slowly developing inside my chest cavity. I ignored it because frankly I hate seeing a doctor, and I don’t have much faith in the healthcare system. A few months later, new sensations presented itself. Beneath my left armpit it felt like some dude was wrapping his hand around it and squeezing. I also had a discomforting feeling between my chest bone and left breast, like a splinter or nail was stuck between them. I still do, btw. I finally relented and saw a doctor last Monday.

Doctor: Have you ever had a mammo done?

Me: No. Two of my friends had one done and had such a bad experience that they’ll never have one again.

Doctor: Have you performed a breast examine on yourself?

Me: Yes.

Doctor: Do you mind if I perform one on you?

Me: *shrugs* No. You can if you want. Breast cancer doesn’t run in my family, but if you want to you can.

She left me so I could take my shirt and bra off, and then when she came back, she had me lay on one of those tables with white paper on top of it. She checked the right breast and then the left.

Doctor: You have some lumps here.

Me: Nu-huh.

Doctor: You also have fullness. It’s very full here. *she presses down and around my armpit area and I about jump off the table from the pain* Do you want to feel it?

Me: *nods and allows her hand to guide mine to where she was pressing* It does feel full, but it hurts too much to keep touching it. *I pull my hand away*

Doctor: I can have you do a mammo right now, but I prefer you have it done on Wednesday when an ultrasound tech will be available. I also want to run some bloodwork on you.

I said okay, got the bloodwork done and the mammo scheduled. That night I got a call telling me my blood results came out find, but they were still waiting on the rest of it.

On Wednesday morning I had the mammo. Thankfully, I used to work with the gal who was performing it—once upon a time ago we were coworkers at the clinic here in town—so she was really good. She had me wait for the results. Twenty minutes later she came back and said the radiologist saw something and wanted her to take one more picture. She did, and then I waited. She entered the room and told me they wanted to do an ultrasound. So I had it done, and then I waited. Finally in the end I was told it was a mass, but they didn’t think it was benign; however, they wanted to monitor it. The doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory pills for me.

WTH?

I received a call the next day telling me my vitamin D levels were extremely low. I’m now on 50,000 mili grams three times a week. I asked about the pain. The gal who called me seemed indifferent, almost callous. She basically told me I’d have to live with it, but I could get a second opinion if I wanted to.

Gee, thanks.

As of right now, I know 3 people battling breast cancer and an author friend of mine just found out last week she has it, so that makes 4 now. I’m baffled by the whole thing. I don’t know what to think. All I know is if this weird ass pain I’m experiencing won’t go away, I’m going to have to get a second opinion.

I don’t wanna.

We’ll see, but I sure hope this week will be better than the last, because as Paige would say, “It sucked ass.”

I thought I’d post this because I’ve decided I’m going to start sharing things about myself with y’all. I do plan on getting another blog since I use this one mainly for supporting other authors, but for the time being, I’ll post things about me and my books here, as well. I’m no longer going to be shy about who I am. If you like me and want to follow me cool, if not that’s fine too. If you don’t know who I am, check my bio. I’m also a dirty minded, sometimes foul mouth girl who has an irreverent sense of humor. I’m very honest, open, and loyal. This year you will discover those things and more about me, whether it’ll be here or on another blog I’ll be creating when time permits.

Anyway, in the near future, I'll be revealing to you Ameerah's cover. It's breathtaking. Her book will be published sometime this year. You won't want to miss this.

Seriously.

So . . .

Edits, Edits, Edits, Oh, My.

I started working on edits with my editor, and I forgot what a pain in the butt edits and rewrites can be. It’s also time consuming. But on a good note, it’s so worth it in the long run.

My editor is awesome by the way. He line edits and comments when he feels it’s necessary to do so. I’m also happy to say so far (we’re on chapter 10 right now) he really likes this second book (Dark Spirits) to my YA paranormal series. My goal is to make each book better than the first one and it looks like I’m accomplishing it.

Yay!

My main character Paige had to deal with her emotional baggage in my first book (Beyond the Eyes) in order to move on to her "new" life. So in Dark Spirits, she grows into a stronger person. She also starts having visions and discovers abilities she had all along, but were dormant until now. There’s a reason why and the reader will find out. Also, the dark spirits play a much bigger role in this book and it’s a lot creepier and darker than BTE. There are so many cool things about this story I’d love to talk about, but my lips are sealed. I do need to start writing a blurb, and I’ll post it here when it’s done. I’m also working with my cover artist, so I’ll do a cover reveal as well.

*Brain Scatter*

I was surfing the net earlier, looking for pictures when I saw this:

I had to laugh because if I could have kids that would be something he or she would write. I wonder what the teacher thought when she read it. Hopefully she has a good sense of humor.

Anyway, when I’m not at my day job or doing the mundane tasks life requires of me (cleaning, balancing the check book, paying bills, dishes, cooking, sleeping, etc.) I’m here in my writing cave. I do though, manage to read because it’s just as important as writing.

It is.

Seriously.

In fact, since I’m done with The Evolution of Mara Dyer, I need to start reading the next book on my list which is Vampire Academy. I’m really not in the mood to read that type of book, but I’m going to anyway. But before I do, I need to get back to those edits. I’m anxious to see what my editor thinks of this next chapter because there’s a hilarious scene in it that involves a long, blue, vibrating thing and a basset hound who thinks it’s a chew toy.

At least, I think it’s funny. :)

My Four-Legged Kid

I have a four-legged kid named Church. I named him after the cat in Stephen King’s book Pet Semtary.

This is Church. He’s a handsome boy. Don’t you think?

He’s the coolest cat ever, but lately he’s been a pain-in-the-ass. He wants either in or outside. Or he wants to go in the basement. He can’t make up his frickin’ mind. He’ll come in for a few minutes, and then he wants to go back outside. He’ll go outside for a few minutes, and then he wants back in. And he meows, and meows, and meows. However, he gets away with it because he does stuff like this.

He’s just too damn cute to stay mad at, and he likes to snuggle. Also, when he’s not complaining or whining, he has a cute disposition. And he’s funny. He gets big points for silliness. But he does get in his moods, and sometimes when I’m writing, he won’t stop interrupting me. Again, he’ll meow and meow and meow, or he’ll scratch at the carpet, which he knows not to do, or he’ll attack my arm. So then I’ll threaten him. I tell him if he continues with his crap, his ass is staying outside. Amazingly enough, he chills out and goes to sleep. I think I’m going to have to do that this morning because as I’m writing this, he’s banging the cupboard door in the kitchen. He likes to go in the cupboards. But see, I’m trying to write, and he’s being a brat. Now, he’s meowing. It’s a pathetic meow, like he has it SO hard. Poor baby. Kevin is making crying sounds (LOL), telling Church he’s a wuss.

Kids. It doesn’t matter if they’re human or furry, we choose to share our life with them. And even though sometimes they’re a pain-in-the-ass; we still love them.

Now, I need to go kick some kitty ass because he’s attacking my leg.

I'm Not A Hand Sitter.

I am not a hand sitter when it comes to my books. I'd spent yesterday going over, Beyond the Eyes for the millionth time, and I’m still going over it. It has been critiqued already, polished, and I think every scene moves the story forward or is relevant to it, but still I feel the need to go over it. Maybe it’s the perfectionist in me when it comes to my work. I don’t know. Hopefully I’ll find an agent soon who will love this story, but the reality is it could take months or maybe years for that to happen. I had heard from another agent in London the other day, and she told me that she enjoyed reading, Beyond the Eyes (I had sent her the first 50 pages), but they only have four people on staff and it’s not right for her list. She also told me that she’s sure another agent will pick it up. So I’ll keep plugging away at it and continue writing the sequel, which by the way, I need to start on the next chapter. If worse comes to worse, I’ll turn it into a script or self publish. But like I had said before. . . . I really want to get it traditionally published, even though it usually takes 2 years to publish.

Anyway, that’s where I am on the writing front. It’s a long ass process because not only do you have to write the book, you have to edit it, rewrite it, edit it, get it critiqued, rewrite it, edit it, do a query letter, do a synopsis, research agents, etc. And then once you get an agent, you go through your manuscript with her and rewrite/edit parts of it before she sends it to publishers. Once you get a publisher, you do the same thing with them. After that, you start marketing your book because really it’s a business and you need to treat it as such. It’s not like once your book gets accepted by a publisher you can kick back and collect the royalty checks. No. You have to totally promote your book and get it out there. It’s a lot of work, but I love it. Sometimes I feel like one of those people who likes pain and pleasure in sex (sadomasochist?), because it’s painful at times, but yet satisfying. Maybe that’s a weird analogy to describe it, but it works for me :).

Now I better get to work before the morning whips by me.
